Friday Watch | Discover the beading practice of Camille Laddawan / ลัดดาวัลย์.

Camille’s practice is slow and distinctive. She translates English language and Western music notation into beadwork, using each bead to represent a letter or musical note within a carefully structured composition.

Seen here, Camille’s work ‘Acedia’ is now available to collect at Craft, online and in the gallery.

Hand-loom woven over hours, the work’s surface forms a dense, silvery-grey field of sterling silver-plated and glass beads.

UP NEXT: Lean In is an invitation to enter the dialogue between artists.

The exhibition brings together new work by three of Australia’s most innovative and established contemporary jewellers: Laura Deakin, Dr Marian Hosking and Dr Blanche Tilden.

Camp Stove: Closing Event – Join us in the gallery on the last day of the 2026 First Peoples-led Exhibition.

Hosted by curator Kate ten Buuren, the day will include an artist talk from exhibiting artist Dennis Golding, and readings from publication contributor Alice Skye. All are welcome – Afternoon tea included.

In Camp Stove, Djaara, Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba and Gunai/ Kurnai multi-media artist ENOKi presents a tattooed kangaroo skin cloak and leather harness.

‘Possum skin cloaks would traditionally depict an Indigenous person’s achievements and life. For this work, I’ve used kangaroo hides and tattooing to create a cloak and a harness. The work speaks to the idea of adornment, and unifies both
traditional and modern-day styles.’ – ENOKi

On now – discover Camp Stove

Yangamini ("holes" in Tiwi) is a guerilla collective who use their work to speak up on the interconnected rights of Country and Q***r communities. Initiated in 2022 by Tiwi-Warlpiri Sistagirl Elder Crystal Love Johnson, the collective consists of Trans and Non-binary First Nations and allied communities.

Current members include Crystal Love, Nadine Birrimilunngga Purranika Lee, Vivian "Buffy" Warlapinni-Kerinauia, Romana Paulson, Joachim Tipiloura, and Jonita, with connections across Tiwi, Gulumirrgin, Warlpiri, Kunwinjku, Yolŋu, Wardaman, Karajarri, Gurindji, Burarra, Minjunbal, Bundjalung, Mununjali, Hēung Góng and other extracted lands and seas.

To celebrate the opening of Camp Stove, curator Kate ten Buuren and the artists of Camp Stove hosted an afternoon of conversations, performance and workshops with us. The event included an artist talk with ENOKi, Karla Dickens and Gabi Briggs, performance by Yangamini Collective, and a lure-making and fishing skills workshop.

The program was presented through Craft’s First Peoples-led Program 2026 – featuring impact-led initiatives including First Peoples only programs and engagement with local First Peoples-owned businesses. The exhibition and programs are supported by Creative Victoria and Thorne Harbour Health.
