LIEUTENANCY BOARD EXAMINATIONS

This weekend, on the morning of Sunday, August 3, at 9:30 am, as an element of Fort Malden's "Heritage Days" event and our own annual "School of the Sailor" activities, the Provincial Marine will be hosting Crown Forces 1812 Naval Establishment examination boards for two prospective candidates for the rank of Lieutenant. These examinations will be held at the Commissariat Building, at the north end of Amherstburg's Navy Yard Park.

The Crown Forces North America Naval Establishment is an umbrella organization under which all War of 1812 naval re-enactment groups across the continent work together to assure appropriate levels of historical accuracy in our impressions, as well as maintaining strict safety protocols and qualifications for the protection of our own personnel and the public attending our events. As such, all candidates for command roles within member organizations must demonstrate an acceptable degree of knowledge and experience by means of a verbal examination conducted by a Board of senior military re-enactment officers. This mirrors the historical Boards held for this purpose by the British Royal Navy of the early 19th century.

The two candidates scheduled for examination this year are our own Mr. Jason Grainger, Acting Lieutenant, Provincial Marine Amherstburg, and Mr. Rory Tassonyi, Midshipman, HMS 'Prince Regent'.

This year's Examining Board will be comprised of CFNA Naval Establishment Commodore Thomas Hurlbut, CFNA Commanding Officer Brigadier General Tom Fournier, and CFNANE Lake Erie Station Commander Dale Kidd.

Public are invited to attend; however, seating will be limited due to venue size. The first examination will commence at 9:30 sharp.
