Artist Isabelle Durand, featured in the first image shares her thoughts on her two pieces 'Underwater Affluence' and 'Flowerworks' created for the show 'Abundance', currently on display until September 12th:

"For me, these two pieces represent the theme of this show.

Abundance at the seaside and all the "treasures" that it presents, not necessarily obvious to the eye, but always in abundance! The seaside landscape allowed me to experiment with the use of Alcohol Ink on styrofoam giving me a chance to carve into the material and work for more hidden designs.

The Flower piece on canvas reminds me of an explosion of flowers, similar to fireworks. It is always fascinating to use air blower techniques and alcohol ink on canvas."

Our very own Glenn Gustafson, who has helped spearhead the 'Spotlight on Craft' area at the Pearl Ellis Gallery, will be hosting an eco-print workshop on Sunday, September 27th at McLoughlin Gardens!

Join naturalist Glenn on a hike through the forest and gardens at McLoughlin Gardens to learn more about the trees, shrubs and plants growing on site, then use leaves collected on the hike to eco-print beautiful images onto paper. This particular process takes several weeks to ‘develop’, so finished samples will be available for pick-up when ready at the Pearl Ellis Gallery.

The cost is $10 + GST ($10.50) for materials which can be sent by e-transfer to [email protected] or by cheque to McLoughlin Gardens.

Artist Marylin Peeters offers her musings on her piece 'Where the Day Rests', currently on display for the 'Abundance' show on until September 12th.

"I've always been drawn to those quiet moments when the day slows down, the light softens, the ocean becomes still, and the ordinary feels extraordinary. In this painting, I wanted to bring together realism and contemporary design, allowing delicate botanical line work to emerge from the bouquet like memories drifting into the evening light. My hope is that this piece invites you to pause, breathe, and enjoy a moment of peace."

Thank you to those who came to the two fantastic workshops yesterday at the Lions Club (below the Pearl Ellis Gallery). They were well received, with creatives of all ages coming together to make something special in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Marg McLellan hosted the felting event and Nate Schmold (Nate👻Schmold) hosted the audible art event - a special thanks to them both! Along with special guest Scott Bertram who helped echo the creative vibes in the evening.

Audible Art is a monthly music and art event open to all, with the next one happening on September 26th - add it to your calendar and don't miss it!

Artist Roberto Binda is pictured beaming alongside his vibrant, richly textured piece 'Big Bloom', featured in the current Abundance exhibition, on display until September 12th. Here, he shares a little insight into the inspiration behind his work and what the word “Abundance” means to him:

"In the flowering world, giant sunflowers stand as a powerful symbol of abundance and growth. They transform sunlight into towering blooms, vibrant beauty, and countless seeds - each one carrying the promise of new life in seasons to come.

Art inspires life - this season, that new life has come in the form of giant sunflowers growing for the first time in our local garden."

On September 1st, we will begin accepting proposals for our 2027 Artists' Initiatives. We offer four juried exhibition opportunities each year for solo, joint, or group shows. We welcome submissions from emerging and established artists working in all media.
