We are excited to announce our Feature Artist at the Potters Place Gallery for the month of May is Sheree Floyd!
Let’s get to know Sheree:
Growing up in Vancouver, living and loving the west coast lifestyle, has been a defining influence on my vision of the world. Introduction to pottery in high school was what sent me off on my lifelong passion for
ceramics.
I moved to Yellowknife in my late teens for work. I joined the most amazing pottery guild there. For 4 years I enjoyed the classes and excellent workshops given by that group. From there I moved to Edmonton to attend college for an arts diploma where I continued my learning in the visual arts.
It quickly became clear I needed a kiln. And from there I never looked back. I did some teaching of children classes at a city program and workshops on various projects for teens and adults. I always liked to start my first class talking about how clay work is not just a current day craft but a media deeply entrenched in human history. Culturally, functional and ascetically this media has significant importance and I think that was part of the appeal from the start for me.
The connection to the past and the joy of creating for now is what inspires me. I especially love including my fanciful images dragons, slugs, mushrooms and forests in my designs. I’m so grateful to have found the wonderful endless world of the ceramics arts.
