We are a collective of local potters featuring 27 artists displaying a variety of hand-built and wheel thrown pottery. You will find a variety of firing techniques including high and mid-range functional ware, raku, pit fired, crystaline glazes, salt firing and ash glazes. Parking is available in a parking lot behind the Potters Place - entrance via the front door.

We are excited to share that our September Guest Artist is the one and only, Jane Murray-Smith! Jane Murray-Smith Ceramics

A few words from Jane:
Although I had taken two courses through the Nanaimo Pottery Co-op in the 1990s, my pottery journey began in ernest in with courses at the Arrowsmith Potter’s Guild in Parksville, where the encouragement and support of Algis Bubnys and Linda Reid gave me the confidence to leave my day job and fully commit to life as an artist.

In 2003, I joined a group of local potters—including Algis—to co-found Pyromania Pottery in Coombs. The gallery’s energy and success pushed me to expand my creative expression, experimenting with multiple styles and techniques. During this time, and for several years afterward, I also participated in exhibitions and sales through the Comox Valley Potter’s Club, as well as various winter and summer craft shows.

Today, my work focuses on three distinct approaches. Two are decorative techniques—Horsehair and Feather, and Saggar firing—which embrace spontaneity and the beautiful unpredictability of the firing process. My functional pieces are hand-painted, a practice I find deeply engaging and joyful. This direction feels like the beginning of a new creative chapter.

I am continually inspired by my husband and fellow artist, Christopher M. Smith of Glaskrafter Art Glass. We share both our home and Phoenix Gallery in Lantzville, BC, a space that reflects our shared commitments to craftsmanship, creativity, and artistic exploration.

We also share our lives with our joyful companion, Charlie, who ensures we all enjoy forest baths and rain showers on this beautiful island.

We are pleased to announce our September Feature Artist is the incredible Leah Rosehill! Leah Rosehill

Leah Rosehill is the artist behind Rosehill Pottery. She is a local potter in the Comox Valley who makes whimsical, West Coast nature themed ceramics. Her pottery is covered in illustrations of slugs, mushrooms, and foliage that are hand-carved and painted onto each piece.

Leah’s love of mushrooms came from more than just a love for the forest floor. After she studied ceramics for several years at Kwantlen Polytechnic University she eventually found herself working on a mushroom farm for a few years as an assistant Mycologist. This is where her intrigue into the fungal world expanded into a constant muse for her art practice. She helped cultivate many different mushrooms and was inspired by the intense variety of forms, shapes, colours and textures that the entirety of her ceramic practice is now an homage to her adoration of the fungal kingdom.

Now Leah is a studio potter who works out of a small hobby farm on the outskirts of Cumberland. She works full-time making her breadth of work and sells in shops and arts festivals all over Vancouver Island.

If you’ve been into The Potters Place Gallery, you’ve seen our beautiful display of Stephen Lewis Foundation cards we have for sale. Another great supporter of the foundation is the Merville Grandmothers.

The Merville Grand Mothers (MGMs) formed in 2006, mobilizing soon after they learned that the Stephen Lewis Foundation was initiating a Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign in support of the African grandmothers who, as Stephen Lewis has said, were holding their communities together and raising the children orphaned by loss of parents due to the HIV/Aids pandemic. Over the past 20 years, this small but mighty group has raised over $220,000 through awareness-raising and fund-raising activities, primarily with a focus on food and fabric. The MGM are very thankful for the support & generosity that continues to come from the Comox Valley community.

The Merville Grand Mothers are hosting their Fabulous Fabric Sale Saturday September 12th from 9am to 1pm at the CV Curling Rink on Headquarters Road. All proceeds to the Stephen Lewis Foundation to support African grandmothers caring for their orphaned grandchildren.

We are thrilled to announce that the July 2026 Guest Artists at The Potters Place Gallery is Fired Up! Fired Up!

Fired Up! is a British Columbia-based group of highly-talented ceramic artists who have an annual show and regularly exhibit together. The first Fired Up! Contemporary Works in Clay was hosted by the renowned Robin Hopper and Judi Dyelle in their Metchosin garden, where they brought together 12 ceramic artists who shared a vision of more than just another pottery sale. Their purpose was to show the public the many diverse ways of working with clay by demonstration and exhibition, and to promote the understanding and appreciation of ceramics as an art form.Today, Fired Up! is the longest-running ceramic exhibition group in Canada.

Fired Up! Artists showcasing at The Potters Place are Peter Flanagan, Sarah Graeme, Sandy Harquail, Gordon Hutchens, Irene Ives, Cathi Jefferson, Miera Mathison and Kinichi Shigeno.
