Nelles Manor Museum

Nelles Manor Museum Nelles Manor Museum is a 1798 heritage home and War of 1812 battlefield site. Our Story:
Nelles Manor is a historical gem in the heart of Grimsby and Niagara.

It is rare piece of Canadian heritage. A family home for over two centuries, the Manor has been often viewed from afar. In 2016, owners and restorers the Coutts generously donated their home and grounds, to the people of Grimsby and Ontario as Nelles Manor Museum. An independent charitable, non-profit corporation - Nelles Manor Heritage House - was created to oversee it. In 2026 we are celebrating

our 10th anniversary! Nelles Manor Museum is open to visitors through tours and many heritage and cultural events. The Nelles name is familiar to those who live in the Grimsby area, as they were one of the founding families to settle in this part of Upper Canada during the late 18th century. Colonel Robert Nelles built this gorgeous Georgian-style home and resided there with his large family until his death in 1842. The house has passed through four successive generations of Nelles descendants, and remains standing today as a testament to Robert's wisdom and perseverance through an ambitious colonial beginning. The rest of the story is told by the house itself... you'll have to come visit in person and see what it has to offer. Our admission is by donation. Friends of Nelles Manor - FREE
Museum of Niagara Association members - FREE. We also offer educational tours, special events, and facility rentals for any occasion.

Thoughts from a Nelles Manor Museum Volunteer
A Musical Odyssey – Coming Home
YOU CAN NEVER GO HOME AGAIN people say. But when folks make music at Nelles Manor, they go home every time they play. Being as old as it is, the Manor has welcomed more than 2 Centuries of live music to its parlor, before the mass media era inclined us to be spectators.
Chamber music is a sort of conversation in itself and when we play or listen to the old tunes we are having, in effect, old conversations with new friends. With the same warm feelings we remember stories, and reminisce; it is a reunion of ourselves thought lost and gone forever. And then our conversations turn to more recent memories such as how we learned to tie our first Windsor knot.
Home-made music is hands-on history, not sanitized behind glass; even ‘there’s no place like home’ can be played as a song. With a house as old as Nelles Manor almost every genre of music would have included family favourites at some point. Perhaps there’s an echo of it yet in its old bones.
