A visitor captured this amazing video of our pipefish in the middle of their delicate mating dance. 💙

It all begins when the female approaches the male. If he’s interested, he’ll follow her before the pair embrace and twirl through the seagrass together. 🌿

And here’s the really amazing part: just like their seahorse cousins, male pipefish carry the young! The female transfers her eggs to the male, who fertilizes them and carries them in a specialized brood pouch. There, he protects the developing eggs and keeps them oxygenated until they hatch.

Talk about teamwork! 🩵

Did you know that male Lumpfish can turn a different colour during the breeding season to attract mates and signal to the females that they are ready to spawn?🧡🍊

They can come in a surprising range of colors, including green, grey, brown, yellow, orange, blue, and reddish tones. So there are plenty of possibilities! And now we have a few Lumpfish pals that have changed their colour.

Take a stroll through our aquaria space under twinkling lights and participate in a painting activity while getting to know your partner better. Then it is time to dance the night away at our first ever swing dance social. 💃🏼

All dance levels are welcome, with a beginner lesson beginning at 6:30 before the social.
