Blue Wave by Laurie Wardrope, 2026

Laurie has been creating jewellery since an accident required her to rest after work. A lap full of beads, she maintains, requires stillness.

Her study of Interior design at the U of M in the faculty of Architecture developed her design sensibility, and jewellery making offered her the opportunity to complete a project in an evening. Her work has been influenced by training, and materials, as well as her summer surroundings in Matlock, at her lakeside cottage and studio “Moonglow”, amid the many shifting colours of Lake Winnipeg. Early in her process a friend shared a catalogue from a worldwide supplier of freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals, and semi precious stones, each material or combination an opportunity to inspire something unique.

She also feels that becoming part of the WAVE group of artists has had a great impact on her work. A very talented group, she maintains, who are supportive and encouraging, challenging her to expand her horizons. Recently, with their encouragement she has begun working with resin, glass and beads in combination.

In keeping with the theme “Making Waves”, she has created a collection. A sculptural bowl “Blue Wave” and jewellery pieces formed in resin with glass inclusions.

On view at the 210 Gallery as part of WAVE Action until May 23.

Pretty in Pink by Brenda Booke, 2025

Brenda draws inspiration from the contrast between the prairie landscape and the lakeside breeze, crafting jewelry that feels both grounded and expressive. Based in both the vibrant city of Calgary and the serene shores of Winnipeg Beach, she is a jewelry artist dedicated to the intricate world of fiber and beads.

Brenda’s work blends texture and technique, specializing in off-loom beaded jewelry, crochet, and string beaded designs. Whether weaving tiny glass beads into wearable art or utilizing the rhythmic flow of crochet to create unique silhouettes, Brenda’s process is deeply meditative. "Art washes away the dust of everyday life" resonates with her and can seen in every piece she creates. Each necklace and bracelet serves as a vibrant escape from the mundane, designed to bring a touch of handcrafted beauty and clarity to the person wearing it.

Freedom by Rosemary Miguez, 2025

Rosemary creates artworks that connect the mind and soul, through the eyes – offering an emotional or spiritual experience by inviting deep personal attachment as the viewer beholds the work. Rosemary says: “I strive to create pieces of art that will touch viewer in a deep, lasting, personal way”. By combining sand with acrylic mediums, she is able to harness the light to illuminate shape and shadow, maybe … revealing the hidden story within the art.

Cherry Blossoms by Milli Flaig-Hooper, 2025 (The Paper Fifrildi)

Milli Flaig-Hooper is a paper maker and a paper artist. The magic of paper making awakens the child in everyone who experiences it. The tactile touch of putting your hands into warm pea-soupy slurry and letting it swirl through your fingers awakens the maker. Milli takes the process seriously while allowing the child within to free flow with the creation. Getting it on a screen with galaxy-like images while making it look like child’s play is a creative skill learned by doing it since 2007. Art made from her handmade paper is what speaks to the viewer who is amazed at how previously used paper gets reinvented into a combination of textures and colours not seen anywhere else.
