Anti-Fascist Films of the DEFA, 1949–1962: Die Mörder sind unter uns (Murderers Among Us) at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA!

Es war der erste deutsche Film der Nachkriegszeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Vor dem Hintergrund der tatsächlichen Trümmer Berlins dreht sich die Geschichte um einen untergetauchten Kriegsverbrecher, dessen Verbrechen von einem anderen Mann nicht vergessen wurden. Gleichzeitig ist es ein Porträt des angesehenen deutschen Bürgers, der sich weigert, seine eigene Schuld zu begreifen. Der Film wurde zu einem Klassiker. Er spricht auch unsere Gegenwart an und thematisiert die Fragilität der bedrohten Demokratie.

Präsentiert im Rahmen von DEFA-ANTIFA, einem kuratierten Filmprogramm und thematischen Schwerpunkt, der der antifaschistischen Schaffenslinie des ehemaligen ostdeutschen Staatsfilmstudios DEFA gewidmet ist.

In Zusammenarbeit mit der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung.

We are happy to announce this years AKE DIKHEA? Short Film Program: Futures, Blossoming ✨

This program of shorts moves through the interior lives of Romani youth - their language, their memories and how they’re told, the fragments of love and passion embedded in the rhythms of everyday life.

Taken together, these four films go beyond the mainstream images of Romani subjects as spectacle or sorrow and offer alternative visions. This is a section about the present tense, and about the future that’s quietly and insistently blossoming.

On 13 September at 19:00, join us for a special screening of Ein Volksbürger, a theatre production by Nico and the Navigators, nominated for the Berlin Theatertreffen and the Friedrich Luft Prize. The work follows the rise of a populist Minister-President whose pursuit of power steadily erodes democratic institutions, culminating in a constitutional showdown. In the politically charged election year of 2026, it has taken on renewed urgency.

Followed by a talk with director Nicola Hümpel and co-creator Maximilian Steinbeis, moderated by Christiane Hoffmann, who served as First Deputy Spokesperson of the German Federal Government and Deputy Head of the Federal Press Office from 2022 to 2025. (In German)

Under the Table: The table is reset as part of Berlin Art Week!

Created by Viron Erol Vert with students of Kunsthochschule Weißensee (Beo Da Silva, Dré Philippens, Léna Serdjebi, Zéna Chite) Under the Table is a multidimensional installation that reimagines Eastern Mediterranean table cultures as a fragile, cyclical space of destruction, purification, and renewal. It was first commissioned for AMAN AMAN Berlin (12.-14.06.2026).

For Berlin Art Week, the table comes life once more, this time with an activation by Dafni Rüde (dafni_ruede) in collaboration with BALKAN RADIKAL () & Dalila Daut (dada__ist)

On Thursday 10.09.2026 at 18:00, Dalila invites guests to a coffee-ground reading, creating a space for reflection, connection, and attentive listening. Afterwards, DJ Da-Da, of Dancing Ambiance fame, will cook up and perform a 90 minute tasting menu of bedroom-acclaimed producers, outernational hits, and dry-aged psychedelica.

The installation can be visited on both Friday 11. + Saturday 12. from 18:00 onwards.

Bouchra has writer’s block. A 35-year-old Moroccan filmmaker living in New York, she is trying to write about a mother-daughter relationship when a call from her estranged mother in Casablanca reopens a conversation nine years in the making.

Moving between awkward phone calls, hand-drawn memories and a world of photorealistic furry creatures, Bouchra playfully blurs animation and autofiction to navigate migration, queerness and the complicated desire to know and be known by the person who raised you.
