ON VIEW | Form Unfolding

Form Unfolding examines the emergence of form across drawing, painting and sculpture. The exhibition explores the delicate interplay between gesture, material, line and space, revealing how ideas transform into tangible expressions. Through varied media and artistic approaches, the works engage in a subtle dialogue, tracing the unfolding process from initial impulse to realized form.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the participation of our represented artists Adriana Molder and Mário Macilau in the Anozero 26 - Coimbra Biennial of Contemporary Art.

To hold, To give, To receive (Dar, Segurar, Receber)

Curated by Hans Ibelings and John Zeppetelli, with Daniel Madeira as assistant curator, the biennial takes its starting point from the Proto-Indo-European term *ghabh — the origin of the word ‘habitat’ — to explore the ideas of holding, giving and receiving as fundamental gestures of the artistic and social experience.

The Biennial takes place across multiple venues in Coimbra, Portugal, between 11 April and 5 July 2026.

Galerie Alex Serra is delighted to announce that artist Adriana Molder ( ) is now represented by the gallery.

Adriana Molder born in Lisbon, in 1975. She Lives and works in Lisbon.

Her large-scale pieces, usually in Indian ink on tracing paper, depict figures that oscillate between dreams, phantasmagoria and reality. The conceptual focal point of her work is the significance of the face as a symbol in contemporary imagery. She has produced several series of portraits inspired by iconic figures in popular culture, cinema, and art history, always with a strong connection to literature.

Molder’s drawings and paintings create an instant feeling of familiarity between the viewer and her work, making it both relevant and accessible.

As we look at the entirety of her oeuvre, we are faced with a gallery of figures which combine elements of portraitist fidelity with fictional or narrative inventiveness, while over the whole hangs something we will call an atmospheric quality, to avoid calling it an aura. An atmosphere that turns representation into memory, where the separation between picture and viewer becomes irreversible, leading to the inevitability of the almost soft passing of a shadow of death.

Adriana Molder has exhibited her work in Portugal and abroad since 2002. Her work is represented in several private and public collections, in Portugal and abroad, including Novo Banco, António Cachola Collection, Berardo Collection, Fundação EDP Collection, Union Fenosa, Lisbon City Council and Kupferstichkabinett - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Flags are symbols of power and national identity. They mark borders, define territories and reflect the authority of a state or nation over a given area. However, when the flag carries a message that transcends physical borders, it becomes an imaginary and fictional symbol. In this work, the flag ceases to be a mere instrument of territorial control and becomes a vehicle for the imagination. The text directs the audience›s gaze towards a territory that cannot be found on maps, a place that does not exist in the physical world, but in possibility, in hypothesis. It is a utopia, a concept that, as the title of the work suggests, escapes concrete reality and the political and geopolitical limitations imposed on it. This utopia, unlike territories delimited by borders and flags, is fluid, open to constant re-creation and free from any external imposition. It represents the human capacity to dream of better worlds, to imagine spaces where justice, equality and freedom not only exist, but are perpetuated. By challenging conventional symbols of power, this flag invites the viewer to participate in the construction of new realities, where the limits of what is possible are constantly expanded by the power of the collective imagination.
