We are delighted to announce Karola Braga as the Art Senses Artist of the Year 2026.

Selected for the clarity and conceptual strength of her proposal Bloom of the Night, Braga will develop an immersive atmospheric installation that explores how perception reorganises when atmosphere—rather than visual clarity—structures space. Drawing from the Guarani Mbya concept of the “blooming of night,” the work unfolds through scent, airflow, and subtle light adaptation, inviting audiences into a sensory field shaped by duration, drift, and embodied attention.

As the Art Senses Artist of the Year 2026, she receives:

• A €10,000 financial award
• Six months of mentorship with A.A.Murakami
• Curatorial guidance from the jury
• Technical and environmental consultation with Therme Group specialists
• Presentation and visibility opportunities through Therme Art

Over the coming months, the proposal will be further developed through atmospheric calibration and environmental modelling, refining the integration of scent, airflow, and light into a scalable installation.

Congratulations to the winners of the Artists of the Future Drawing Competition!

Elif, Zeynep, Levi, Yusuf, Mason, Maddison, Willow, Ariaanaz, Cayden, Alaina, Nell, Jessica, Hayden, Bobby, Lochlann, Farrah, Harry, Lottie, Abdulmalik, Georgia, Piranith and Esom.

These 22 young creatives from Salford and Trafford, all aged between 6 and 14, will see their artworks featured on the hoarding at Therme Manchester, transforming the site into a vibrant, large-scale outdoor gallery and a public showcase of young creative talent.

Selecting just 22 winners from over 600 submissions was no easy task. We extend our sincere thanks to every young artist who participated for sharing their beautiful artworks with us, and to for working with us to bring this project to life.

The winners were selected by renowned street artist , contemporary artist and .ciurysek.gedir of Therme Art for their imaginative and creative responses to themes at the heart of Therme’s global ethos: nature, water, fun and wellbeing.

Artists of the Future was created to champion and platform young voices across Greater Manchester, offering emerging talent the opportunity to have their work publicly displayed and celebrated. The competition reflects a shared commitment to supporting creativity at an early stage and ensuring that young artists are given visibility within their own communities.

Shortlisted artist Tanya Harris shares an insight into her multidimensional practice—exploring vibration, perception, and the subtle forces that shape lived experience.

Selected as one of three artists for the 2026 edition of Art Senses, she is currently developing her proposal in response to this year’s curatorial theme, Sensing the Invisible, under the mentorship of A.A. Murakami.

Following the unveiling of two new site-specific commissions by Therme Art at Therme Erding—following extensive renovations of the facility—we caught up with Icelandic artist Egill Sæbjörnsson to discuss his installation titled “Flying Waters” situated in the Jungbrunnen (“Fountain of Youth”).

The work is a generative video projection of ever-changing animated water jets that move with a playful, game-like quality, surrounding bathers. Anyone entering the Jungbrunnen naturally becomes part of the artwork, blurring the boundary between real and virtual space.

In the interview, Egill shares how the work “addresses the digital dimension and the physical dimension of our reality today” and reflects on the significance of creating this piece in the very first Therme ever built by Mr. Wund, with its primal “fountain of youth” source.

Flying Waters joins DRIFT’s “Meadow” in creating an environment that encourages rest, play, and connection as part of a more balanced way of living.

On the occasion of the reopening of Therme Erding—following extensive renovations of four key areas, Therme, VitalOase, Vital & Sauna and Entry Foyer—Therme Art presents two new site-specific artworks designed to enrich the visitor experience: “Meadow: A Kinetic Sculpture of Mechanical Flowers” by Dutch studio DRIFT and “Flying Waters” by Icelandic artist Egill Sæbjörnsson.

Taking over the entire foyer, Meadow forms an upside-down landscape of mechanical flowers that open and close in a poetic choreography. The work was commissioned by Therme Erding with 38 flowers, honouring the year of birth of the late German architect Josef Wund. Responding to visitors as they enter the building—like blossoms turning toward the sun—its robotic petals shift through light and coloured fabric, creating a botanical presence that draws viewers into a moment of symbiosis.

Inside the thermal facility, the Jungbrunnen (“Fountain of Youth”) surrounds bathers with Flying Waters, a generative video projection of ever-changing animated water jets that move with a playful, game-like quality. Anyone entering the Jungbrunnen naturally becomes part of the artwork, blurring the boundary between real and virtual space.

Together, Meadow and Flying Waters reflect Therme’s commitment to creating environments that encourage rest, play, and connection as part of a more balanced and sustainable way of living. We hope these works enhance visitors’ sense of wellbeing and inspire reflection on their relationship with themselves and with the natural world.

Meet Art Senses 2026 shortlisted artist Tanya Harris (). ⁠

Tanya Harris is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores vibration as a subtle yet fundamental force shaping lived experience. Working across sound, installation, drawing, and participatory formats, her work invites heightened sensory awareness and collective resonance, centring on the unseen dynamics of energy and embodiment. ⁠
⁠
The works presented here reflect this investigation through different material and perceptual registers. Consciousness Resides in Geometry (2018) draws on plant-based knowledge systems and cymatics, translating the vibrational “songs” of plants into geometric forms that visualise inner and outer transformation. In The Architecture of Sound (2013), Harris records the resonant frequencies of historic architecture, revealing sound as a formative, spatial force by transforming vibration into visible, engraved geometries. ⁠

Together, these works exemplify Harris’s approach to creating immersive situations that open space for reflection, connection, and shifts in perception at both individual and collective levels. ⁠

📣✨ We are pleased to announce the shortlisted artists for the 2026 edition of Art Senses: Karola Braga, Rong Bao, and Tanya Harris. ⁠

Selected by the jury from over 600 applications, the shortlisted artists were recognised for the strength of their artistic practices and their close alignment with the 2026 curatorial theme, Sensing the Invisible. ⁠

Each artist will receive a €1,000 budget and six weeks to develop a project proposal responding to the theme. One artist will be selected as the Art Senses Artist of the Year through a joint decision by the jury and mentor. The winning artist will be announced on 11 March 2026. ⁠
