Last but not least, we have Valentina Usai Zucca 💙

Valentina is an artist based in Alnwick. She is highly inspired by nature and takes regular daily walks in the countryside to observe the changes in the environment around her.

Primary sources are her own pictures of the natural world, plants and botanical materials gathered when outdoors. She is particularly fascinated by the use of light to make permanent impressions of the ephemeral natural world and cyanotype is one of her favourite processes.

She is a member of a global online community of artists that shares ideas and experiments with alternative photography printing.
She is also a studio member at Northern Print, in Newcastle, where she participates in art projects, events and exhibitions.

This weeks artist is Kate Corill 🎨

Kate is a local artist who works with watercolours, pigmented powders, inks and soft pastels.

She loves colours, whether they are dramatic and moody or muted and misty. Kate likes to catch snapshots of things that intrigue her and loves nothing more than walking along the beach and peering into rock pools looking at the colours in the pebbles and shells and seaweed. Or walking along a river and watching the reflections in the water.

She is also a lover of dramatic skies and landscapes and finds that with pastels she can create some wonderful effects.

This week we are showcasing our next artist Hazel Moore 🤩

Creative Cow was named when Hazel was a
Community Outreach Worker, doing freelance
work with children in churches around Huddersfield.

Hazel combined this with creative work, particularly making jewellery that is bright, cheerful and affordable. She also runs jewellery workshops.

Now living in Alnwick, she continues to make jewellery and tries her hand at other creative ventures such as needle felting, paper making and computer-based art.

We have some lovely new artist who have joined us in the gallery! Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing their work. First up is Nikki Hurrell 🤗

Nikki is an artist based in Alnwick who draws heavily from her local environment and its vegetation. Her great interest in plants and their healing and medicinal properties led her to a previous career as a pharmacist.

Now, she’s interested in how humans interact with their environment and how nature affects wellbeing. These are the core threads found throughout her work.

Nikki is a mixed media artist who uses different mediums and often incorporates found materials from her local environment, such as pigments, to create a dialogue with her local environment.

Currently, her work responds to the dynamic landscape of the Northumbrian coast, in particular its wide dramatic skies and wild blustery days. She endeavours to capture this movement, energy, and ever-changing landscape in her work.

Alongside her artwork, Nikki is interested in textiles and is a member of ‘Alchemy’, a collective of women artists.
