We’re delighted to share the results of the 2026 Annual Museum Survey, which highlight the significant contribution The Ropewalk continues to make to the local economy through tourism, employment, local suppliers and volunteering.

Almost 100,000 visitors came through our doors in 2025/26, generating an impressive £2,208,147 in economic impact for the local economy.

Within this figure, employment, the use of local goods and services, and the invaluable contribution of our volunteers fed into our economic impact by £487,000+.

These figures demonstrate just how important cultural venues like The Ropewalk are to our local community. Every visit helps support local businesses, sustain jobs and contribute to the wider economy.

Most importantly, we couldn’t do it without you!

Have you spotted new work by Lee Sass in the Hallmark Room yet?

Lee’s work takes many forms - from biodegradable coffins and shrouds to disability portraits that challenge our ideas of beauty and difference. Although diverse, there is a common thread running through it all: using art to shine a light on social issues and encourage us to see things differently.

Her dog portraits are no exception.

Beautiful, engaging and instantly accessible, this collection of portraits, titled Ruff Sketches, celebrate the personalities of rescue dogs and the incredible individuality behind every face. They remind us that a rescue dog isn’t defined by its past, its breed or its circumstances - but by the character and companionship it can bring.

Behind every portrait is a gentle message: there are countless wonderful dogs already waiting for loving homes.

If you enjoy Lee’s work, please consider voting for her artwork that is currently being exhibited in the Harley. It is titled Death Shouldn’t Cost the Earth and is environmentally designed and made using endangered heritage crafts. The link to vote is in the comments below.

We’re thrilled to announce that The Ropewalk will once again be joining venues across the UK to celebrate Independent Venue Week, an annual celebration of the independent live music and arts scene.

The week shines a spotlight on the venues, owners, staff and volunteers who keep our cultural spaces thriving, alongside the artists, crews and promoters who bring them to life.

Taking place from Monday 25 to Sunday 31 January 2027, the celebration promises to be a fantastic week, and we already have a brilliant line-up of performances in the works!

We can’t wait to share more details with you, so keep your eyes peeled for further announcements.

Here’s to celebrating independent venues, supporting live music and bringing people together through the arts!

Known for their infectious blend of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars, Megson have earned a reputation for their intelligent, captivating songwriting, exquisite musicianship and unmistakable Northern humour.

Taking pride of place on the Front Plinth in the Craft Gallery is a collection of tiles by Alison Milner.

Graduating from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Furniture Design Alison’s work has developed and diversified with a key theme being the relationship between nature and the built environment.

Her overall aim is to humanise the built environment and help people to feel a connection with the places that they live and work in a subtle and very natural way. Alison has been designing coasters with images for almost 20 years. The coasters are mostly interchangeable designs which are sometimes photographic and sometimes illustrational. The images usually evolve as offshoots of Alison’s other projects.

Liz picked up this beautiful collection of work directly from Alison during East Riding Open Studios, when Alison generously opened up her home to welcome visitors and showcase her work.

Liz was in awe of Alison’s workspace, a wonderful insight into the creativity and inspiration behind her practice. It was a lovely reminder of just how special rural Open Studios can be, offering the chance to discover artists in their own surroundings, see where ideas take shape and gain a deeper appreciation of the people and places behind the work.

Cultural Futures is commissioning new creative work celebrating the people, places and events that have shaped our area’s cultural heritage.

We want to hear about the famous faces and the lesser-told stories — from community events and musicians to landmarks, monuments, performers and much more.

✨ Tell the story your way

Photography • Illustration • Film • Animation • Writing • Spoken Word • Sound • Music • Comics • Zines • Performance • Mixed Media and more...

💷 Commission fee:
£1,000 artist fee + up to £500 for materials
The work will be created primarily for digital sharing across social media, websites and other online platforms, but elements could also be developed into posters, banners, exhibition displays, large-scale prints and promotional materials. Agreed print and physical production costs will be covered separately by Cultural Futures.

❓Who can apply?
Artists, creatives, freelancers, collectives, early-career and established practitioners.
You don’t have to currently live in North Lincolnshire, but you must have a connection to the area — for example, you were born, lived, worked or studied here — and your proposal must be clearly rooted in North Lincolnshire’s historic cultural life.

What's On this week at The Ropewalk!

Tuesday – Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 10am - 4pm.

Box Gallery - Heather Elvidge. Heather is a ceramic artist working from her garden studio in the East Yorkshire Wolds, where the surrounding hedgerows and wildlife quietly find their way into everything she makes. Hares, foxes and birds often take centre stage within patterned landscapes influenced by folk art, printmaking and folklore.

October Jeweller of the Month - Silver Sapling. Lucy and Ben create handcrafted jewellery inspired by the natural environment and have created a collection of silver and ceramic pieces with hand painted characters and folk inspired motifs.

The Artspace – Swan Song – an exhibition celebrating Pru Green’s 60-year ceramics career that also features work by her son, Simon Sharp amongst others.

🖼 Gallery One – Jane Walker explores line, space and light through abstract paintings and stitched canvases.

WOW! If you like the blues, you really are in for a treat at Ropery Hall this weekend.
We have two outstanding talents on consecutive nights, and if contemporary blues is your thing, you might just have to come to both!

🎸 Friday 9 October, 8pm: Connor Selby
One of the brightest talents on the UK blues scene, Connor is no stranger to awards. He was named Young Artist of the Year at the UK Blues Awards three years running and has now been crowned Traditional Blues Artist of the Year in both 2025 and 2026.

So, when we say he’s a fantastic guitarist, you don’t just have to take our word for it!

🎤 Saturday 10 October, 8pm: Alice Armstrong
Then on Saturday we welcome back the powerhouse that is Alice Armstrong.
And she really is one to watch. Alice comes to Ropery Hall as European Blues Artist 2025 and UKBF Contemporary Artist of the Year 2025.

We already know what an amazing vocal talent she is, and this time she brings her equally impressive band with her.

So, Friday or Saturday?
We think there’s a third answer: BOTH!

Every now and again you see a piece of theatre that really stays with you.
Back in 2012, our CEO Liz saw an extraordinary production of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. One man, dressed simply in overalls, inhabiting every character in Orwell’s story.

Fourteen years later, she can still remember it.

The adaptation and direction by Guy Masterson really does have to be seen to be believed, so when we discovered the production was touring again, we were delighted and very quickly got a date into the Ropery Hall diary!

This time the performance is by Sam Blythe bringing Orwell’s famous story and its cast of characters to life on stage.
