We may no longer send postcards whilst on holiday, but some of us do enjoy looking for old postcards whilst on our travels. Particularly cards that you have never seen before to add to your collection. This view of West Street hasn't really changed much, nor that of Pagham Church. As is quite often, it is the writing on the back that is of most interest, as it is a snapshot of social history, telling the sender where we are and what we have been doing. Also, the style of English, which was somewhat more respectful than our our texts today might be. It is always worth popping into our shop if in the area to see if anything new has hit the shelves. We are pleased to be stocking the latest Bognor Station Totem fridge magnets for just £2.50 each. We still have plenty of 'Stolen from Bognor Regis Museum' pens at just £1.00 each too. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm.

We have been busy getting our lantern ready for this Sunday's ILLUMINATE parade on Sunday evening. So far we have cut out images of fossils, telephones and radios to stick on our lantern. It's a great night for the town so please look out for the Museum's entry.

Do you still buy a souvenir when on holiday? We picked up these souvenirs from a charity shop in Bognor, as despite having hundreds of examples of Bognor so-called crested china at the Museum already, it is always worth us getting them just in case we don't have them. Due to space constraints, we only keep those relating to Bognor, and sell on in our shop those for other towns.

If you are still looking for FREE things to do with the kids this summer, why not pop into the Museum to pick up a FREE Young Railway Detectives activity pack? It is full of facts and clues that can be found all along the Arun Valley Line between Gatwick Airport and Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. Museum open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm.

The Museum is home to several archives and / or memorabilia of long gone family-run businesses in the town. One notable collection is that of Olbys, where we have a whole wall of photos, including an all-staff photo which always generates much interest from former employees looking for their own faces and trying to put names to the other faces. In addition to their High Street Department Store (now Clock Walk), they also had a large yard at the station (now Covers) and smaller outposts in Rose Green Road and at Middleton. In Hawthorn Road they had a large kitchen and bathroom showroom (now the COOP). You can find out more about the town's history by visiting the Museum at West Street. Open Tues-Sat 10am - 4pm.

We already have on display a rare vitreous enameled vintage totem sign from the town's railway station, on permanent loan from Bognor Regis Town Council, so imagine our delight at receiving another, kindly donated.
The British Railways (BR) totem sign was a highly iconic, flanged, capsule-shaped station name sign introduced in 1948 following nationalisation, and widely rolled out across nearly 3,000 UK stations during the 1950s and 1960s. Originally manufactured using a traditional vitreous enamel process (fusing powdered glass onto steel plates at high temperatures), these signs featured white Gill Sans lettering. They were colour-coded strictly by geographic railway region to create a cohesive corporate identity. Most original enamel signs were aggressively scrapped during the corporate rebrand to "British Rail" and the implementation of the "Double Arrow" logo in the late 1960s.

Don't forget that Saturday 8 August is the last chance to see our temporary summer exhibition on the life and legacy of Henry Leopold Guermonprez, notable Natural Historian who collected and recorded thousands of specimens from Bognor and across Southern England. Includes carefully preserved insects, birds, shells and skulls. Bognor Regis Museum, West Street, open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
