BOOK HIGHLIGHT ✨

We're so pleased to be stocking 'Isola' by John Perivolaris on our bookshelf.

"Isola reflects on the idea of the island as an existential condition. The images were photographed at the opposite ends of Europe, in the Western Isles of Scotland and the islands of the Eastern Aegean, acknowledging the fact that my life is defined, respectively, by my family origins in the Greek island of Chios and the Scottish island of Arran, where I now live. In the context of my own diasporic heritage, Isola is a reflection on isolation and paradoxical connection."
- John Perivolaris

On the walls of Island Darkroom ✨

One of the the current works we have on display in our gallery is 'Slige #2' by island artist Danielle Macleod. A unique Cyanotype print, toned with dried willow.

Danielle's work explores the intertwined relationships between people, landscape, and oral tradition. She creates photographic images where the human merges with sculptural forms made from natural materials gathered from land and sea. These figures symbolise transformation and becoming, evoking otherworldly presences that draw on ancestral pasts while hinting at possible futures. Through a process of handling each material, sculpted beings unveil themselves in collaboration with, rather than dominion over, the environment we belong to.

You can experience this work at Island Darkroom alongside other prints by Danielle Macleod during our opening hours: Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
