TIM’S VERMEER
Film Screening Tomorrow!

What if one of the greatest painters in history was working with a secret?

Tim’s Vermeer follows inventor Tim Jenison on an extraordinary journey into the world of Johannes Vermeer. Without any formal training in painting, Jenison becomes obsessed with understanding how Vermeer achieved such astonishing realism. What begins as curiosity turns into a years long experiment, as he attempts to recreate a Vermeer painting using optical techniques he believes the artist may have used.

Directed by Teller and produced by Penn Jillette, this captivating documentary sits at the intersection of art, science and obsession. As Jenison painstakingly builds his process from scratch, the film becomes a meditation on perception, craft and the nature of genius itself.

TURNER & CONSTABLE: THE DEFINITIVE EXHIBITION FILM

Very very limited seats remaining for tomorrows screening, only 4 seats left for the Matinee and 3 for the Evening showing. The link to our website is in our bio.

Celebrating the 250th anniversary of their births, this unmissable new documentary brings together two of Britain’s greatest painters, J.M.W. Turner and John Constable, and explores their intertwined lives, remarkable artistic legacies, and legendary rivalry on the big screen

Produced with exclusive access to the groundbreaking Tate Britain exhibition, this film showcases intimate views of their sketchbooks, personal items and masterpieces, revealing unexpected sides to both artists and illuminating how their very different approaches transformed landscape painting forever

Turner’s blazing sunsets and dreamlike visions meet Constable’s idealised depictions of beloved places, critics once described their contrasting styles as a clash of fire and water

Putting on Paint – Part I & II
Iain Robertson

A rare and great glimpse into the working environment where the paintings are developed, surrounded by tools, materials and the physical evidence of process that underpins the work currently on show.

Located directly above Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, Porthmeor Studios are among the oldest and most historically significant working artists’ studios in the UK. Originally built in the early 1800s for the pilchard fishing industry, the buildings were gradually converted into artists’ studios from the 1880s onwards, drawn by the unique quality of light and coastal setting.

The studios have since hosted many major figures in British art and continue today as an active community of working artists.

Putting on Paint is a focused two-part exhibition by painter Iain Robertson, unfolding across two Kent venues this February.

At Linden Hall Studio, Part II presents new paintings and recent print works, including collaborations with master printmaker Kip Gresham. These works reflect Robertson’s current practice, with an intensified engagement with paint as both material and subject. Process remains visible, with surfaces built through layering, abrasion and revision.

Running concurrently, Part I at LOWEWORKS, Faversham brings together a curated selection of earlier paintings, offering context for the new work and tracing the development of Robertson’s visual language.

FILM SCREENING

Mati Diop’s DAHOMEY
Thursday 19 February
Matinee & evening screenings

Our first film screening of the year is Dahomey (2024), a lyrical and thought-provoking film by Mati Diop, following the return of 26 royal artefacts from France to Benin.

Blending documentary, imagination and debate, the film brings together multiple voices — curators, historians, students and citizens — to explore what restitution means today. Central conversations among young Beninese people challenge official narratives and address the unresolved legacy of colonial history.

Ultimately, Dahomey is a film about memory, identity and power, asking who has the right to hold history and how cultural heritage shapes collective futures.

Tickets £12 (includes a complimentary drink)

Winter Group Show - Final Day Tomorrow!

As the Winter Group Show approaches its final day tomorrow, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly rewarding exhibition this year has been. Each year this show arrives seemingly quicker than the year before, but it never loses its sense of anticipation, excitement and engagement, and this Winter Group Show has been no exception!

Bringing together work by more than 250 artists, the exhibition spans painting, sculpture, print, photography, and mixed media. The range of approaches, scales, and energies has filled the gallery over the past weeks, and despite the diversity, there is a quiet coherence throughout, which the team and I are very proud of.

We have been delighted by the number of visitors and the generosity of responses left in our visitors' book. A couple of comments that stayed with us:

"An inspiring and uplifting exhibition - so much talent in one space."

"A thoughtful and beautifully curated show. I could have spent hours here."

To all the artists involved, thank you for your trust and for sharing what you make. And to everyone who has visited, returned, recommended us, or simply spent time looking closely - we are deeply gratetul.

Tomorrow is the final chance to visit, with the exhibition closing at 4pm.
