✨ **Pieces of Light – the inspiration behind Sally Purdy’s exhibition**

Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unexpected places.

For mosaic artist Sally Purdy, it was a beautiful poem by Anita Krizzan that helped inspire the title of her current exhibition, *Piecing it Together*, and her striking mosaic, *Pieces of Light*.

The poem begins:

*“We are Mosaics – Pieces of light”*

It's a lovely thought. Just as a mosaic brings together individual fragments of glass and colour to create something whole, our lives are made up of different experiences, memories and moments.

🦊 Sally's *Pieces of Light* captures that idea beautifully, with a deer nestled among the trees, surrounded by rich colours, shimmering glass and reflected light.

🎨 Both the poem and the artwork remind us that individual pieces can come together to create something rather special.

There's still time to enjoy Sally's exhibition, *Piecing it Together*, at Alchemist Gallery, which runs until **20 October**.

🎉 The Happy Card Project winners are revealed!

What a fantastic response we've had to our Happy Card Project!

A huge thank you to Strathgarve, Marybank and Strathconon Primary Schools for taking part, and to everyone who stopped to admire the children's artwork and cast their vote.

With a whopping 295 votes, it was an incredibly close-run competition. In fact, that little black dog had us counting the votes twice! 🐾

🏆 Our winner:

🐆 No. 28 – Iza, P6, Strathgarve Primary School, with her colourful snow leopard design.

⭐ Our joint runners-up:

💙 No. 5 – Ameilia, P4, Marybank Primary School, with her lovely Be Kind design.

🐶 No. 6 – Chloe, Strathconon Primary School, with her charming black dog.

The voting was so close, and with each of the three designs coming from a different school, we decided there was only one thing to do...

We're having all three printed! 🎨

Even better, profits from the sale of the cards will support charities chosen by the children:

The designs are now away being professionally printed, and we're hoping to have them available to buy at Alchemist Gallery by the end of October.

❤️ Thank you again to all the children who took part. We have absolutely loved displaying your artwork in our window, and it's been wonderful seeing how much interest and discussion the designs have generated.

✨ There’s more than meets the eye in these three beautiful round mosaics by Sally Purdy.

Each piece in Sally’s current exhibition, *Piecing it Together*, draws on nature, myth and folklore.

The robin, one of our most familiar garden birds, has long been linked in folklore with loved ones, perhaps inspired by its distinctive colouring and curious nature.

The Selkie takes us into Scottish folklore, where these magical shape-shifting creatures are said to move between seal and human form. Sally’s use of glass and mirrors beautifully reflects that sense of transformation.

And the mountain hare has its own connections to age-old myth and wisdom, captured here beneath the moon in shimmering glass.

All three are part of *Piecing it Together*, currently showing at Alchemist Gallery, and are available to buy in the gallery or online.

The votes have been counted! 💌

A whopping 295 votes were cast for the wonderful cards created by pupils from Strathconon, Strathgarve and Marybank Primary Schools for Thinking of You Week.

All of the cards were voted for, and we absolutely loved all the wee additions people made to their voting slips too. ❤️

The ballot box has now been opened, the votes counted and, as you can see, the whole process was fully adjudicated by Geordie! 🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the gallery window, chose a favourite and cast their vote.

And now... we have a winner! 👀

What a creative weekend! 🎨

A look back at our recent mosaic workshop with Sally Purdy at Alchemist Gallery.

Over the weekend, everyone got hands-on with the process, from cutting and piecing together their designs to the rather messy business of grouting!

And just look at the results. ❤️ Each finished piece is completely individual, with some wonderful combinations of colour, pattern and recycled materials.

A huge thank you to Sally for sharing her skills and enthusiasm, and to everyone who joined us for such an enjoyable and creative weekend.

Sally's exhibition, ‘Piecing it Together’, continues at Alchemist Gallery until 20 October, so do pop in and see more of her mosaic work for yourself.

💌 The votes are coming in!

All the wonderful greeting card designs created by pupils from Strathconon, Strathgarve and Marybank Primary Schools are now on display in our window, and voting is underway!

A couple of weeks ago, we donated art supply packs to each of the three schools and invited pupils to design a greeting card as part of Thinking of You Week. Now it’s over to you to help choose the winning design.

🗳️ Pop your vote in the ballot box outside the gallery, or through our letterbox when we're closed

The card receiving the most votes will be professionally printed and sold at Alchemist Gallery, with profits going to a charity chosen by the winning pupil.

These are three of our smallest local schools, with school rolls ranging from just 6 to 17 pupils, so we’d love you to come along and show your support for these young artists.

Voting is open until we close on Tuesday 29 September.

We sell a wonderful range of cards throughout the year for all seasons and occasions, and we know just how much receiving one can mean.

🍂 September Equinox – a new season of colour

Today marks the September Equinox and the beginning of autumn, bringing with it a whole new palette of creative inspiration.

Golden leaves, russet hills, changing skies and those wonderful autumn colours appearing across the Highland landscape. It's a beautiful time of year to pick up your paints and capture the changing season. 🎨

At Alchemist Gallery, you'll find artists' watercolours and our own Alchemist watercolour paper, along with plenty of other art supplies to help get you creating.
