Some of the work created by primary school pupils from Berwick upon Tweed in response to the Joan Eardley exhibition currently on at The Granary Gallery, Berwick. We took the schools on a tour of the exhibition and then back to The Maltings at Hide Hill to let out their inner artists. We discussed the importance of drawing and foundations in an art work which was their starting point along with inspiration from the beautiful Berwick coastline. We then moved onto paint and collage where they were encouraged to think about how Eardley might have used mark making and materials to convey emotion. This was followed by using pastels to highlight and pick out certain details in their finished pieces. We think they did an excellent job and can’t wait to see the remaining schools this week.
