Chris Crane, sculptor extraordinaire, who creates beautifully engineered pieces using discarded steel items, is inspired by the wildlife here in West Wales. Over the Bank Holiday weekend, he dropped off his latest sculpture, Key to the Sky, depicting a kestrel holding an ancient key in its talons. The key, attached by a ring held by the kestrel, lends unusual movement to this sculpture.

Chris is no stranger to us at Workshop Wales, having exhibited and sold his sculpture here for many years, both indoor and outdoor pieces, popular with our local clientele and visitors alike. We also have a few occasional working sketches in charcoal and inks of his sculptures.

Open from 11am - 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday, we will be happy to show you Chris’ sculptures and pictures amongst our many exhibits.

We're delighted to receive some more new pieces for the gallery this week.

Caroline McLachlan delivered her latest creation, Gorse under the Garn. She has been exhibiting here for many years, it's always lovely to see her, and her wonderful vibrant pieces bring a touch of joy to any space.

Our resident woodturner, Martin Webb also dropped by to discuss his work in progress, two tops for bwrdd ceidr (traditional Welsh cider tables). He commentated on our range of exhibits, particularly paintings of the Pembrokeshire coast and hills. Thanks Martin!

Do come and see what we have on offer. You may even bump into one of our artists!

Why not stop by to see the latest artwork in person!
We are open Tuesday to Saturday 11am - 4pm. Located 3 miles from Fishguard on the A487 towards St Davids, just follow the signposts from the main road.

Always nice to be visited by our artists; and who should call in this week but our exhibiting artist, Kathy Thomson.
Kathy is inspired by the mountain, moor, and coastal landscapes of Pembrokeshire, Ireland, the South Downs, and Cornwall. In the studio, her memory of the landscape is transfigured by paint and imagination. She is able to make an expressive interpretation using the complexity of forms, colour, light, surfaces and textures that she has seen, felt, remembered, or imagined, and which emerge in the act of painting.

We are delighted at Workshop Wales to be exhibiting the work of many talented artists, each creating across a wide range of media and styles.

Dave Short is a potter based in Evesham, Worcestershire.
He started making pottery after repairing a broken wheel and then buying some clay to find out if it worked properly - it did, and he was hooked!
He was a finalist on Series 7 of the Great Pottery Throwdown on Channel 4.
Since retiring from teaching, he makes and sells pottery, delivers pottery workshops at a variety of venues, and facilitates ceramic projects in schools.

Martin Webb is a furniture maker, with a long held passion for traditional Welsh stick furniture and wood carvings. Growing up in the South Wales Valleys, he has a life-long passion for Welsh primitive furniture. Closest to being Workshop Wales’ resident woodturner, he works predominantly with timber that he cuts and seasons from the neighbouring Penmeiddyn Woods.

A glorious day at Workshop Wales on Wednesday when not one but two of our artists dropped by with new exhibits for the Gallery.

Madeleine Vale is a professional sculptor, creating beautiful ceramics, including her much loved Skinny Dogs. Her newest pieces include some delightful espresso/shot cups and another of her Dogs in a Boat creations. It’s great that she takes the time to drop by to see us.

Sue Sharp is a very local artist, her inspiration is rooted in the mood and magnificence of the Pembrokeshire landscape - from coastal light to subdued hills. She also responds to the colour and forms of the flowers in her garden and delights in seasonal changes. Sue uses many mediums, including oils, watercolour for convenience and acrylics, but she particularly enjoys the scope that mixed media - including acrylics, paste and pastel brings to her work. She tells us that she loves the Gallery for its wide variety of styles and media but most of all for its beautiful setting.

Local artist Martin Schell has brought in another beautiful piece from his Welsh Icon Series of paintings.

Any guesses which Welsh icon this might be? 👀
