On Tuesday 27th October we will be holding a screening for the National Emergency Briefing.
In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and other influential people in Westminster. That evidence is now on the public record. Since April, thousands of communities have watched this 50-minute film which combines authoritative scientific content from that event, with reactions from members of the public and some more familiar faces, to help us process the information on a more human level. Although the facts are alarming, many that have seen the film say that they felt a sense of optimism about confronting the challenge together and seeing a better future.
We have 2 booking options available for this particular Wallsworth evening, one of which will be for our usual format – viewing the museum galleries beforehand and enjoying a buffet before the screening (Doors open 7pm), this will be at a reduced cost of £10pp + booking fees.
The second option is just to attend the screening at 8pm, this option is free admission, however, we’d still like you to book your place so we can maintain our guest numbers.

This week's 'Collection Spotlight' is on this bold and wonderful Burmantofts Faience vase, currently on display in our gallery.
Burmantofts
Faience Vase
moulded earthenware, c1894-6
Burmantofts was a Yorkshire pottery established 1858 in Leeds by the firm Wilcock & Co for the production of architectural wares from local clays. Burmantofts Faience was a hard buff coloured earthenware body fired to high temperature and was used to make tiles and, from 1881, art pottery. They made tall vases, bowls, jardinières, pedestals, some tableware pieces modelled after oriental or middle-eastern forms, and even a range of sculptural Grotesque Art pottery animals.
Relief decoration including flowers or scrolls, geometrical patterns, lizards and other animals were often carved, incised or moulded and applied.
The firm was later run by the Leeds Fireclay Company from 1889 and production of art pottery stopped in 1904 but the firm continued to produce glazed bricks and terracotta until 1957.

As part of a local environmental week, Nature in Art will be exhibiting 'Flowerscapes', an exhibition showcasing a selection of paintings by Meg Stevens which are held in our collection. This special exhibition, held in our Atrium gallery, will be on display for a limited time only, offering visitors the opportunity to view a wonderful selection of Meg Stevens paintings, last shown in their entirety in 2017.
This exhibition will showcase a remarkable collection of paintings all done in situ by Meg Stevens in and around Llanfrynach near Brecon, Wales, where she lived. She could be found out in all weather capturing the wild places she loved, highlighting wild flowers in their own habitats, saying herself that...

‘When I find bits (of land) where wild flowers grow plentifully, I want to celebrate. All art makes a statement of some kind about something experienced, emotionally or physically. It may be a proclamation or a protest, a poem or a political statement. I think mine are a sort of celebration’.

We're well and truly into autumn now, the weather is changing and the leaves are starting to change colour, so it seems fitting that we should celebrate this particular piece for our 'Collection Spotlight' this week 🍂
Andrea Rich (b. 1954)
'Autumn Stream'
woodcut 584 x 693mm
American contemporary artist, Andrea Rich, studied Art Education at the University of Wisconsin, at Whitewater, and now lives and works in Santa Cruz, California. She is involved with wildlife rehabilitation and produces her prints from personal observations of wildlife in their natural habitats, visiting locations such as Madagascar, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Africa and Europe in search of interesting subjects.
To create an image she carves and prints a separate block for each colour, then hand pulls each print. A typical print requires ten to twenty blocks. This particular piece is a woodcut on paper depicting a stream filled with fallen autumn leaves.
'Autumn Stream' is currently on display in our gallery, included in general admission.
