Castle Gallery Promoting quality, contemporary art in the Highlands of Scotland
www.castlegallery.co.uk The Castle Gallery is situated in the lee of Inverness Castle.

The building dates to the early 18th century and has been sympathetically restored to provide an ideal gallery space on two floors with exhibitions of original contemporary fine and applied art by artists from Scotland and throughout Britain. A close relationship with our artists ensures the finest possible selection of works from both established artists and emerging talent.

Gary Webster studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art and now sculpts in his garden workshop near Inverness. Each piece is hand-crafted using hammer and chisels, then finished with a multitude of grades of sandpaper to bring out the rich colour and patterning of the serpentine stone. No machine tools are used – quite amazing!

As part of our current exhibition of new paintings by Ian McWhinnie we have stoneware vessels by Steve Smith and sculptures by Gary Webster. It is particularly appropriate to be showing Gary’s superb sculptures alongside Ian’s Moray Coast paintings as Gary hand carves in serpentine stone sourced from the Moray Coast. Gary likes to carve natural forms such as birds and animals, but he also likes to push the boundaries and has recently completed some babies!
