Thank you to everyone who attended our Rear Engined Bus Running Day we hope you enjoyed your day with us.

A huge thank you to those who brought buses along for people to see or ride on. With the price of diesel at the moment it is very much appreciated.

Our next event is our Classic Bike Days or we are open this week 1100-1600 (not including Froday or Saturday)

And here is our star of the show, Happy birthday number 6!! (Complete with new reproduction adverts thanks to our friends at Stickymoo)

Just a week to go to our Rear Engined Bus Running Day!

Come and help us celebrate 50 years of Leyland Atlantean number 6 along with a supporting cast of visiting "rear engined" buses.

It all starts at 1100 on Sunday 24th May.

If buses are not your thing, we have the Classic Bike Days on June 6th and 7th or the Ipswich Transport & Model Festival on June 20th - a busy month for events at Priory Heath!

Thanks to our volunteer Dan who shot this footage from fellow Museum volunteer Chris's own Leyland bus on the Felixstowe Run yesterday - great to see people along the route through the Trimleys!

If you would like to have a bus ride (or more) why not come and visit us on Sunday May 24th for our Rear Engined Bus Day?

Another Ipswich to Felixstowe Vintage Vehicle Road Run over. :(

Such an event cannot take place without a team of people so in no particular order we have some thank yous...

Firstly to our entrants! Everyone who takes part pays an admission fee which helps us raise money for the Museum, and then they donate their time, effort and fuel to create the spectacle we saw today. These magnificent machines are a labour of love and its great that you show off your pride and joy - THANK YOU!!!!!

Secondly, to our sponsors. We were able to hand out programmes free this year thanks to the generosity of our programme advertisers - THANK YOU!!!!

Thirdly, to all the volunteer marshalls. Again giving up their Sunday to help marshall vehicles (and people!) safely around the park or Felixstowe. Both Museum and Eastern Counties Motor Club. Also to our amazing Organising Team, who had to battle potential rain and last minute roadworks this year - THANK YOU!!!

Fourthly, to everyone who came out and supported the event. It is a great boost for both Ipswich and Felixstowe and was great to see so many people sitting along the route enjoying themselves, waving flags and hands and smiling as the convoys came past - THANK YOU!!!

So as we now tuck our vehicles away, we'll be back in May 2027 for the 55th Run. Entries open around Christmas time and fill up fast.

If you cant wait that long for more transport heritage, we are open every Sunday, Bank Holiday and Tuesdays-Thursdays in the School Holidays 1100-1600 at the Old Trolleybus Museum, Cobham Road, Ipswich.

Our next SPECIAL EVENT is our Rear Engined Bus running day on Sunday May 24th, hope to see some of you there!

Happy New Year to all from the Ipswich Transport Museum!

Why not Volunteer with us in 2026?

Volunteers are the beating heart of the Ipswich Transport Museum, we have no paid staff, we give our time and energy for free.

Our volunteers play a vital role in:
✔ Welcoming and looking after our visitors
✔ Archiving and conserving our huge archive of information, plans and documentation
✔ Maintaining vehicles, displays, the Depot itself and grounds
✔ Restoring exhibits back to their former glory
✔ Staffing our tea room and shop on open days
✔ Managing the Museum strategy and ensuring our accreditations and compliance is up to date

We work hard to make volunteering a rewarding experience, offering the chance to work in a team (or many teams), learn new skills, social events and the satisfaction of helping to preserve the past for future generations.

Find a starting role that suits you and discover the benefits of joining our volunteer team, visit our website and complete the form on the "Find Out More" page, or drop us a DM.
