We are delighted to announce our forthcoming summer exhibition (Re)Collect from 4th July - 26 September 2026.

Step into a vibrant world where memory, collecting, and creativity collide. (Re)Collect showcases stunning new works by three brilliant female printmakers: Chowwai Cheung, Claire Willberg, and Nathalie Kingdon.

From the bold geometric landscapes of Chowwai Cheung, to Claire Willberg’s remarkable prints made from London’s discarded treasures, to Nathalie Kingdon’s playful screen prints transforming iconic 1970s female figures with vivid colors and daring shapes.

This exhibition explores collecting as both a method and metaphor, inviting you to reflect on how the memories we hold shape who we are.

✨THE FUTURE IS NOW ✨

We had a fabulous afternoon visiting Arts University Plymouth and meeting the talented third-year BA
(Hons) Painting, Drawing & Printmaking, BA (Hons) Fine Art, and BA (Hons) Craft & Material Practices students to talk about the Velarde x Arts University Plymouth South West Arts Graduate Award (SWAG).

It was wonderful to tour the incredible facilities, chat with students, and see them putting the finishing touches to their graduate shows. The creativity, ambition, and talent on display were truly inspiring.

We’re now looking forward to selecting the winner of the 2026 SWAG Award, which will be announced on Thursday 18 June. The recipient will receive tailored mentoring and a place in Velarde’s winter exhibition.

Through the SWAG Award, we support a graduating Arts University Plymouth student each year, helping them develop a body of work for public exhibition and sale. With guidance on production, curation, and audience development, the award provides a meaningful first platform for emerging artists.

There is so much talent coming through, and it was a privilege to see such an exciting range of work, ideas, and creative voices. We wish all the students every success with their final degree shows.

✨NEW SCULPTURE✨

A big thank you to Contemporary British sculptor Dominic Welch for installing Songbird, his striking new sculpture carved from Kilkenny limestone, in the Velarde sculpture garden this week.

Rooted in organic forms and the rhythms of the natural world, Songbird carries a sense of movement and stillness at once, its polished surface revealing the depth and character of the ancient stone itself.

Welch’s sculptures are admired for their purity of form and calming presence. Their organic curves and dreamlike silhouettes create striking focal points in contemporary interiors, landscaped gardens, and architectural spaces.

Balancing simplicity with technical mastery, his work offers collectors a powerful sense of stillness, beauty, and contemplation.
