Last few days of our Analogue 11. Exhibit on our wall!

Analogue 11. Frames from .

Rhys is a Youth Worker and Visual Arts Worker based in the Scottish Highlands, specifically around Easter-Ross. An Analogue and Digital Photographer, deeply invested in capturing the intricate details and stories hidden within the landscape. With over 10 years of experience, Rhys also works commercially, collaborating with individuals to bring their unique narratives to life through photography and art.
“Regrowth”, a series of three black and white analogue photographs, captures the delicate resilience of wild flowers and flora on the Scottish Highlands coast. The lack of colour emphasises the subtle textures and forms of life clinging to the rugged, weather-beaten landscape, celebrating nature’s quiet strength and its ability to flourish against all odds.

An evening celebrating everything analogue with Alex Roddie

In the 2020s, the analogue world - photography, art, music, reading and other creative pursuits - is enjoying a revival that few could have predicted 20 years ago. In this talk, writer, editor and photographer Alex Roddie explores the story of the Machine in the 21st century, and why the analogue renaissance is personally empowering as well as a vital countercultural force. How did we get here, where are we going, and why the hell does Alex keep making Star Wars references anyway?

As AI transforms societies, economies and creative industries, craft becomes rebellion against slop - and a new emphasis will fall on trust, process, humanity. But as Alex is keen to point out, this is not about totally rejecting the digital. Maybe the future will belong to those who embrace the best of both digital and analogue worlds.

Although Alex has deep roots in tech, including a computer science degree, he now champions analogue processes in his own work and edits two print magazines riding the wave of this revival.

Analogue 11. Frames from Elaine.

is an exceptional multidisciplinary visual artist based in Inverness, graduating with a first class honours in Contemporary Art Practices, Elaine’s work combines printmaking, sound, sculpture, and analogue photography. Ecology is a recurring theme in her practice, which explores the human relationship to the Scottish environment. Plants are of particular interest and often the starting point for Elaine’s research, looking to the past for inspiration through anthropology and archaeology.

Analogue 11. Frames from Hannah.

Hannah Bailey’s () analogue photography delves into the creative culture of sport, utilising film’s contemplative process to illuminate the human stories that exist beyond the scoreboard. Her work champions the power of women’s sport and grassroots communities, from documenting girls skateboarding in conflict zones to capturing the Scottish women’s football scene in her series Vision FC. Through the deliberate, precious nature of each film frame, Bailey aims to capture the creativity of movement and shine the spotlight on lesser-seen sporting communities in Scotland and worldwide.

Primarily a photographer and printmaker. Working with analogue film and increasingly drawn to abstraction Jannette uses mark making coupled with printmaking as a way of embodying chance and energy into prints. Lines in the landscape; political, geographical and personal, are the factors that drive and inform Jannette’s work, currently exploring borders and belonging, protest and place.

Analogue 11. Frames from Alex.

is a photographer, writer and editor based in Angus. He came to photography through writing for publications such as The Great Outdoors, but since 2015 his personal photography has leaned towards analogue media. His images consider themes of time and timelessness, mortality and immortality, and layers of reality beyond the surface. He edits the magazines Sidetracked and Like the Wind.

This collection explores illusory permanence. The images from the Ardverikie Munros belie the fragility of the mountain landscape, as this area is soon to be transformed by the vast Earba pumped storage hydro scheme. The images from Glen Coe raise related questions. Alex once called the Clachaig Inn home, but the legendary mountain pub is now up for sale, threatening the stability of Alex’s own mental landscape. On a long enough timescale, nothing is permanent.
