Today, Saturday 13 June, is Knit In Public Day! Check out what we are doing at the Fashion and Textile Museum below 👇
Join knitwear designers Smithereens Knitwear and Christina Da'Prato-Shepard as they demonstrate their craft at the Museum in celebration of Knit In Public Day, the largest knitter-run event in the world, bringing together fibre artists in parks, cafes, and public squares to celebrate community and showcase the craft.
Demonstrations will take place in the Museums Workroom at intervals between 11am-4pm so come along and ask questions and celebrate the craft of knitting. No exhibition ticket required.
🧶 Smithereens Knitwear is a creative project founded in 2020 by textile artist Sanjana Khoobarry. Through the exploration of knitwear design and textile development, Smithereens aims to create work informed by dress history and traditional crafts and techniques. Sanjana has a background in Fine Art and has completed a Masters in Dress and Textile History and this context allows the brand to explore historical techniques and pull from a diverse range of references and cultural practises.
🧶 Christina Da’Prato-Shepard is a British artist and designer based in London. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2021 with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art. Her practice centres around textile crafts such as knitting, weaving, and crochet. Each piece is made by hand, without mechanical aid to emphasise the traditionally slow, tactile nature of these processes. Christina’s work takes many forms, such as decorative wall-hangings, clothing, and accessories.
