We are pleased to announce the opening of Kazuhiro Katase’s solo exhibition, sense of renewal, at Gallery Eclectic from 17 June to 19 July 2026.

This exhibition features a wide range of standing forms.
Katase continues to explore his distinctive approach through a playful process of discovery, combining wheel-throwing with hand-building, integrating hand-building with molds, experimenting with reverse approaches to brushwork, and even adding colour to stones naturally mixed into the clay before incorporating them back into the material.

We are especially delighted to present a wide selection of Katase’s beloved mugs and cups, which have always received great enthusiasm and often become cherished pieces in new collections soon after arriving at the gallery.

We are pleased to announce that Kazuhiro Katase’s solo exhibition, sense of renewal, will be held at Gallery Eclectic from 17 June to 19 July 2026.

This exhibition features many standing forms.
Katase continues to explore his distinctive style through a playful process of discovery, combining wheel-throwing with hand-building, integrating hand-building with molds, experimenting with reverse approaches to brushwork, and even adding color to the stones naturally mixed into the clay before incorporating them back into the material.

We are especially excited to present a wide selection of Katase’s beloved mugs and cups, which are always met with great enthusiasm and often find new homes soon after arriving at the gallery.

As part of the opening reception for Kazuhiro Katase’s solo exhibition, Sense of Renewal, a kintsugi workshop will be held by Katahotori.

Kintsugi Workshop Guided by Katahotori

As part of the opening reception for Kazuhiro Katase’s solo exhibition ‘sense of renewal’, we are pleased to host a kintsugi workshop guided by Katahotori.
⁡
No prior experience is required.
This workshop is designed as an opportunity to enjoy the creative process inspired by Katase’s work and philosophy.
⁡
The ceramic piece you bring does not need to be made by Kazuhiro Katase.
Please feel free to bring a vessel that is meaningful to you.

⁡
✨Workshop Content✨
Participants will experience repairing a chipped ceramic piece using traditional urushi lacquer techniques.
⁡
1. Clean the chipped area with a brush to remove any oils or residue.
2. Mix natural urushi lacquer with stone-based fillers (such as tonoko clay powder, talc, or calcium carbonate) using a wooden spatula.
3. Once the mixture reaches the proper consistency, fill the chipped area.
4. Smooth the repaired surface and apply gold powder to complete the repair.
5. After approximately three months of natural curing, the piece will be ready for use.

A chipped ceramic vessel
Please send us photographs of your piece in advance so that we can confirm its suitability for the workshop.
Depending on the nature of the damage, you may bring up to two pieces.

1979 Born in Shizuoka, Japan.
Training After graduating with an MA at Okinawa Prefectural University of the Arts, he learned slip casting from the aspect of creation/origination when he was an assistant to the potter Shigekazu Nagae.
2008 Started his own production in Toyota city and Seto city, Aichi.
2010 Awarded the Grand Prix at the Yokkaichi Pottery Competition.
