Ella Rowland
‘We Are Sound’, 2026
Quilted tapestry, 72 × 65 cm

‘We Are Sound’ reimagines Nottingham’s soundscape as texture, translating voice and movement into something read through touch rather than sound. Stitched roads and familiar landmarks emerge through layered, reclaimed fabrics, forming a map that sits somewhere between memory and place. Rowland’s rhythmic shifts in material echo the flow of the city, its voices, its movement, its everyday life.

On view as part of ‘Endangered Species, in Passing’, opening 18 May. 🩷🩷

We’re really excited to share our latest exhibition responding to the closure of courses at the University of Nottingham, particularly Modern Languages and Music.

Bringing together collaborative photographic series with students alongside textile, drawing, print, and lens-based works, ‘Endangered Species, in passing’ explores voice, sound, and speech through personal and collective experience.

The works move through identity, memory, and obscurity, often sitting in quieter, more intimate spaces, asking what it means to be heard and how creative practices shape and sustain us.

Join us in the LG corridor, Trent Building, at 7pm on 18th May. 🤍👩🏼‍🎨
