What a lovely sight to see.
We closed a little early today to watch the arrival of the Nao Santa Maria at Charlestown, the first visiting ship to Charlestown since the new lock gate was completed.
The Nao Santa Marรญa is a full scale replica of one of the most famous ships in history. On 12 October 1492, under the command of Christopher Columbus, it played a central role in one of the most significant milestones in history: the Discovery of the Americas, the Encounter between Two Worlds that changed the course of world history.
Before her arrival in Charlestown, The Anny also returned to her home and was later followed by Sea Lion.
It's lovely to see the harbour back with ships.
You can visit the Nao Santa Maria in the harbour over the weekend and purchase tickets to go onboard too.

We might close a little earlier today to watch the first ship since the harbour lock gate was replaced enter the harbour. This one should be quite a sight to see.

โ›ต Ever fancied stepping aboard the ship that "discovered" the Americas?

Well, almost. A full-scale replica of Columbus's Nao Santa Marรญa is docking at Charlestown Harbour from Saturday, and it's the first time she's ever visited the Cornish port.

200 tonnes, three masts, five sails, three kilometres of rope... and you can walk the decks for four days only.

There's also a cheeky online ticket discount worth knowing about before you turn up. ๐Ÿ‘€

Full story and how to book in the comments. ๐Ÿ‘‡

I've been busy getting the outdoor decorating done this week. Two sash windows repaired and painted, the first coat of paint on our "beach hut" and some new latches. Let's hope the weather stays dry for a bit longer.
We're open 6 days a week Monday to Saturday so if you are visiting Charlestown don't forget that there are more shops up the hill. Just beyond The Rashleigh Arms you'll find Anna's Gift Shop, Brocante Ltd in the Old Chapel, and opposite them in the courtyard you'll find us Atishoo Gallery full of original British Art including a large collection of paintings and prints by gallery owners Liz Hackney Artist and Paul Clark Artist, Charlestown

It's May Bank Holiday Monday and the sun is shining ๐ŸŒž (at the moment)

Will you be having a cream tea today? If so are you a jam first or cream first person? Obviously here in Cornwall it's always the jam first, but if you can't remember then why not get one of these lovely cards from Barbara Powell to remind you. The cards are now a printed design, but we also have hand painted watercolours of the Cream Tea design that you can frame and display in your home or gift to someone you love.

Find us in the courtyard opposite Charlestown Chapel. We'll be open from 11am until 5pm today.
We have parking right outside the gallery.

๐ŸŽ‰ The scaffolding is down and we now have a secure roof with felting and proper ventilation so no more howling gales through the workshop and water coming into the shop.
Thank you to our landlord and his builder for organising everything, and doing this all without having to completely close the shop.
Next up is to get on with the external decorating so fingers crossed for some dry weather.

Our shop front is looking a little different this year as we are covered in scaffolding and having our roof restored/replaced.
We are located in Charlestown, Cornwall which is part of the Cornwall Mining World Heritage Site.
Our gallery and picture framing business was once the village butchers shop and prior to that was the stable for the village refuge collector who kept their horse and cart here.
The roof has been deteriorating for the 23 years we've been here and unfortunately Storm Goretti did her thing and caused more damage. So the slates are coming off and as many as possible must be salvaged and re-used,a time consuming and pricey job.
Meanwhile our shop front is covered in scaffold so we are a little hard to see. I have attached some photos of how we usually look.

In a pretty courtyard opposite Charlestown Chapel

The weather is on our side and the roof is coming off ๐ŸŒž
We're still open though so do come and visit and if you have any spare cash (I know most of us haven't) but if you do, maybe you could spend it on some fabulous artwork ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ knowing that your're helping us to pay for the new/reconditioned roof. ๐Ÿš๏ธ

The scaffolding is up and weather permitting the roofer will be starting on Monday. We plan to keep the downstairs gallery space open while the work takes place, however our picture framing workshop will be closed for safety in case anything or anyone falls through the roof! We'll still be able to take orders in, but won't be working on any jobs for a few days.

Please do carry on shopping with us, whether in person or online, as every purchase you make is helping to pay towards keeping this fabulous old building water tight and securing it's future.

Find us in the courtyard opposite Charlestown Chapel.

You may notice scaffolding going up at the gallery over the next couple of days. The great news is we're having the roof restored/replaced as we've been patching it for years. The storms this year were the final straw and we've had water coming in since Christmas. Obviously as a conservation area this means re-using as many slates as possible and using like for like for replacements which costs a fair whack.
The gallery will remain open while the work takes place, so please give us a helping hand by continuing shopping with us for your artwork, gifts, art cards, picture framing and more as we've got a hefty bill coming up.
Open Monday to Saturday 11am to 5pm.

We are delighted to be showing the fantastic art work of Mevagissey artist Heidi Marice. Her bold images of Mevagissey fisherman are stunning and are produced as giclee prints here in Cornwall by Darren at Cornwall Fine Art Solutions and framed by Paul in our workshop here at Atishoo. You really can't get much more Cornish than that.
