Its core collection is based round the story of High House Chapel in Ireshopeburn, now part of the Weardale Museum, where the collection will be displayed. Participation in creating panels is very much welcomed, both within the UK and across the world. Back to Lucia's 'Boys' Brigade' panel! Here are the two different styles of corner motif - the one with the red cross is the modern version, while the other is over a century old (in fact a quick look on the BB museum archive shows it in use on a membership card in 1885!) The same values are still very much to the fore, though: to encourage members to 'live life to the full' in a safe, caring environment anchored in the Christian faith. If you know a BB group, why not share this post with them?

We've just passed John Wesley Day! To mark this occasion, we're showing Linda's panel-in-progress, 'A Heart Strangely Warmed'. This experience was to change the life of John Wesley - and therefore the lives of countless others who have been inspired by him. Rather than trying to depend on his own good works, he could rely on the salvation freely offered by Christ. The sudden awareness of the depths of God's love for him was a truly transformative experience which was to have a massive effect worldwide. We also show here Penny's 'Wesley preaching at the Sandgate, Newcastle' and Rookhope Primary School's 'Lead Miner talking to John Wesley.'

After our trip to China with Sarah's panel 'In the Midst of the Middle Kingdom' we move on to something a little nearer home :) On a sunny Bank Holiday many people might be thinking of some kind of outdoor activity, though not necessarily something quite as adventurous as these Boys' Brigade members are trying! This is one of several panels embroidered Lucia, and there are lots of lovely photos to show you over the next few posts. Today we have the finished piece, together with the original designs by our artist David.

This is our last look, for now, at Sarah's panel 'In the Midst of the Middle Kingdom'. We're taking a closer look at the cleverly- worked bamboo-style writing within the inner circle, and also showing our source material for the general design. This was a book compiled by Sarah's cousin, Nicholas, about their grandfather Ernest's work in China, 'in the midst of the Middle Kingdom'.
Wondering what we'll show next? Wait and see!

After looking at the carrying-chair in our last post, here are some photos of the people doing the carrying! This is from Sarah's panel 'In the Midst of the Middle Kingdom'. Even in such tiny figures, she has been able to show their expressions - and we do like the piece of yarn used as a belt for the figure on the left!

Maria was our embroiderer at today’s exhibition in Blanchland where she explained to visitors how she is developing her “Band of Hope” Tapestry. She sprung a little surprise on me, asking if I would consider a 101st panel, and she was passionately perSuasive, in arguing the case for including the story of The Pitmen’s Parliament at Redhills, Durham. I could only say yes.

Sarah's panel 'In the Midst of the Middle Kingdom' commemorates her grandfather's work as a missionary and schoolmaster in China. Today we are looking in detail at the chair, to see the wonderful variety of stitches and hues that have been used.
