Stonehaven Tolbooth Museum

Stonehaven Tolbooth Museum Historic local attraction, the museum is located right on the harbour quayside in the oldest building in Stonehaven. Lots to see and do.

Take photo looking through bars of an original jail cell. Dinosaur trail for children. Museum is run by local volunteers wearing their famous red fleeces. Entry is FREE but donations are always welcome. Outdoor programme of events held in Museum Courtyard over the summer months.

Robert Burns was born, in Alloway, Ayrshire, on this day in 1759. His father, William Burnes, left Clochnahill, Dunnottar, in the late 1840s, to work firstly in Edinburgh before settling in Ayrshire.
Earlier generations of the Burnes family farmed at Brawliemuir and at Bogjorgan, both Glenbervie. There are probably countless people across Kincardineshire that are related to Robert Burns. While most will know of their link to the Bard, many will be totally unaware that they are connected.

These are the museum opening hours we are AIMING for. As ever it all depends on our wonderful volunteers being willing and able to be there. Lots of illnesses and last minute engagements can affect our timetable.

If any of these dates and times require change, we will keep you posted.

As the year draws to a close, it seems an appropriate moment to thank Liz Ritchie for her work as social media officer at Stonehaven Tolbooth Museum. Until recently she was also a trustee and the shop co-ordinator. Thankfully she is staying on as a volunteer guide, so we are not losing her services completely.
I know that she will not thank me for making her the subject of my first post, but it had to be done!
