It is with great sadness that we learnt about the passing of talented and respected Swindon-based artist Ken White on Christmas Eve. Ken was well-known for his many murals enjoyed by residents in Swindon and London, his work on Virgin Atlantic’s distinctive branding, and his involvement with the 1970s music scene including album cover designs for Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Having started his working life at the GWR and training at the Swindon School of Art, White’s paintings were inspired by his experiences of Swindon and its industrial heritage. As an artist of local significance and international resonance, Ken’s work holds a very special place within the collections at Museum & Art Swindon, STEAM Museum and Lydiard House Museum.

Fantastic news!

Wiltshire Museum is delighted to announce that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded £8.5 million towards the £14.8 million Assizes for Devizes project to transform the derelict Assize Court building into a spectacular new home for the Museum.

Lydiard Ghost Tales returns on 12th December! 👻🌲

Prepare to step into the shadows this December as we revive a chilling tradition that goes back thousands of years.

In the atmospheric setting of Lydiard House, surrounded by traditional Christmas cheer, you’ll hear spine-tingling ghost stories about some of the spirits that have been reported over the centuries.

Our Festive Guided Tours of Lydiard House with Cream Tea begin this week! 🍰🎄

Admire the beautiful floral and foliage decorations created by the Royal Wootton Bassett Flower Club as you hear about the fascinating history of the St John family. Afterwards, relax and indulge in a delicious cream tea with scones, jam, Cornish clotted cream and a pot of tea or coffee.
