We show a selection of abstract and figurative artists whose primary inspiration is the natural landscape. Circle also represents European artists and exhibits some of the finest craftwork being made today. CIRCLE is delighted to present new works by Dennis Schikora as part of In Focus — a monthly curated series in the upper gallery, bringing together new artists, new work, and focused exhibitions alongside the main programme.

Dennis Schikora (b. 2000, Germany) is an abstract painter whose work explores impermanence and vulnerability through materially driven processes. Working primarily in oil, he incorporates dust, dirt and organic matter into raw canvas.

His practice prioritises experimentation over resolution. Through layers of overpainting and gestural intervention, surfaces are allowed to shift, crack and settle organically. This sensibility draws from his early engagement with avant-garde artisanal fashion, where deconstruction, asymmetry and imperfection challenge conventional notions of form and function.

Central to Schikora’s work is an embrace of the unresolved. Each painting evolves through intuitive decisions and material interactions, leaving traces of time, erosion and transformation. His works resist closure.

Schikora’s practice reflects on individuality in an increasingly uniform world, finding meaning in the temporary and imperfect.

On view throughout May, with a wider collection available online.

Final days.

Ash Holmes
In Focus — Upper Gallery

Rooted in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Holmes explores colour as emotion — layered oil and acrylic building a quiet intensity through abstraction.

A focused, intimate presentation, separate from the main exhibition.

On view until 30 April.
