October half term is just one week away and we have a lots of fun to look forward to here at the museum!

🔓 Come along each weekday and unlock our museum secrets in Codes and ciphers! Follow a trail, test out ciphers, and send secret messages of your own.

Looking for something more specific?

👨🏽‍🎨 On Weds 28 Oct, teens can get sculptural in From object to artwork (ages 12 to 16)!

🧸 Little ones (2 to 5) can join in with Teddy bear detective storytelling on Thurs 29 Oct!

Booking required for teen session only. All other activities free and drop-in.

Today is World Mental Health Day. It takes place every year on 10 October. It reminds us why good mental health is so important, and how we can prioritise it in our lives and communities.

Wakefield Recovery & Wellbeing College and the Healthwatch Wakefield Community Mental Health panel have created a brilliant new display in our Wakefield One atrium case to support the initiative.

The Wellbeing Journeys display features amazing artwork by their volunteers, staff and students. The artworks reflect the ups and downs of our mental health journeys. They show how creativity and nature can support our wellbeing.

The display is a reminder that help and hope are available to everyone, even when you feel alone.

Pop into Wakefield One to enjoy the artworks and think about how you can take positive steps to support your wellbeing.

Bookable timeslots for our free SEND-friendly Father Christmas visit are now live!

Each ticket is for a group of up to 6 children and adults. Book at https://bit.ly/WMChristmas26

The Father Christmas visits are part of our Christmas at the Museum (for SEND families) event. It is on Saturday 12 December.

Tickets are only needed to meet Father Christmas. All are welcome to drop-in at any time for free festive activities and crafts, designed for SEND families.

It might seem like school's only just getting started but we're already planning for October half term!

🔓 Join us all week (Mon 26 to Fri 30 Oct) for Codes and ciphers and unlock the secrets of Wakefield Museum

👩‍🎨 Teens can get creative in From object to artwork (ages 12 to 16)* on Weds 28 Oct, using Powertex, fabric and mixed media techniques to create 3D masterpieces

🧸 Enjoy Teddy bear detective storytelling (ages 2 to 5) on Thurs 29 Oct and investigate a mystery with Detective Ted

*Booking required for teen session. £3 per teen, accompanying adults free but not essential

🏆 Massive congratulations to our Super League champions, Wakefield Trinity!

The incredible scenes in the city yesterday reminded us of these fantastic pictures of past celebrations from our archive photograph collection.

In 1946, the cup winning team paraded through Wakefield on the back of Beverley's Brewery lorries rather than today's open top buses.

And in 1960, fans packed out Wood Street to see their Wembley heroes.

We hope everyone had an amazing time celebrating this weekend. 🎉

❤️💙 We're rooting for Wakefield Trinity today!

It might be the club's first Super League Grand Final but the team have played in many big matches in their long history.

This is the ball from the 1960 Challenge Cup final at Wembley when Wakefield Trinity beat Hull 38-5 to take home the trophy. The ball was made at Slazenger's Horbury factory. You can now see it on display at Wakefield Museum. We're sharing it in the hope it brings the team lots of luck tonight. 🏉

Explore the sights, smells and texture of Christmas.

There are still a few spaces left on our fantastic cosy crafting workshop tomorrow!

Come along at 1:30pm or 4:30pm and get hands on with clay beads in our latest Find Your Passion workshop.

You'll use polymer clay to make your own beads, learn how to marble clay and create unique patterns, and discover how to make your own jewellery, key chains and accessories!
