Work continues on the tender of 184 and she is really starting to take shape. Damaged panels have been cut off, she has got a coat of rust proof paint and new sheets are starting to be welding in place to fill the holes.

Did you know that our Wagon No.504 was originally designed to carry casks of Guinness. The short-wheelbase bogies permitted its use on the tight curves within the brewery.

504 was built in 1911 to carry casks of stout from the famous Guinness Brewery at St. James' Gate in Dublin to various destination on the GNR system.

It is one of the earliest bogie goods wagons in the British Isles and is a rare survivor to retain its Fox's patent pressed steel plate bogies.

In 1938, 504, and its sister 1977 were the first to be converted to grain use. Fitted with two internal hoppers to allow it to carry grain to the brewery and distilleries throughout the GNR. The grain was loaded through the roof while, internally, the chutes allowed for easy unloading of the grain.

The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland is delighted to announce the departure of the"Mighty Kingdom" 071 Class Diesel Railtour on Saturday 17th October 2026.

Join us on board for this epic long journey of over 400 miles or over 650km from Dublin to the Kingdom of Kerry and back. Our 071 class hauled tour will journey to the end of the line at Tralee with a stop off in Killarney for a longer break in this beautiful Irish town.

Early bird tickets are now on sale via our Eventbrite page. (Facebook won’t let us link at the moment). Full information available also via Eventbrite.

Please note, we have not received confirmed timings from Irish Rail, however outline timings are 07:45 from Dublin and back for 21:00, so a full day out on the rails.
