Il Museo Lorenzo Ferri, parte del Museo Civico “Città di Cave” e compreso nel Sistema Museale Territoriale dei Monti Prenestini e Valle del Giovenzano (Pre.Gio.), è dedicato allo scultore, restauratore e sindonologo Lorenzo Ferri (1902-1975). ioni: la sezione principale che raccoglie una collezione di opere dell’artista, e la sezione distaccata dedicata al Presepe Monumentale. Sezione Museale
La sezione museale, inaugurata nel dicembre 2013 presso via Cavour 27 nel palazzo sede dell’ex Ospedale Mattei, ospita una gipsoteca molto nutrita di opere in gesso dell’artista altamente rappresentative delle diverse fasi della sua carriera, dagli anni ’20 agli anni ’70. Tra le opere più significative e conosciute, i bozzetti di sculture romane come la statua di Trilussa e di Giolitti, l’Ecce Homo, il Cristo Alfa-Omega e il Cristo Redentore, i rilievi per il concorso delle porte bronzee della Basilica di San Pietro in Roma, il dipinto a olio “Eva nell’Eden” e i bozzetti del monumento per il santuario di Knock in Irlanda. La sezione del Presepe Monumentale, inaugurata nel dicembre 2012 presso le sale ipogee del Palazzo Comunale sede dell’ex Convento degli Agostiniani, ospita la gigantesca nativitĂ realizzata da Ferri con statue alte piĂą di 4 metri: le nove statue in gesso scolpite tra il 1947 e il 1948 dopo aver vinto il concorso indetto dai Padri Pallottini per il rinnovamento del presepe in Sant’Andrea della Valle a Roma, raffigurano l’Epifania con Maria e il bambino GesĂą, San Giuseppe alla destra della Vergine e di fronte i tre Magi, di cui uno inginocchiato, con i rispettivi paggi che recano le offerte. Il Museo Lorenzo Ferri, nella sezione principale, è accessibile alle persone con disabilità motorie. All’interno di entrambe le sezioni è presente un percorso tattile che permette la fruizione degli spazi e la conoscenza delle opere anche a soggetti con disabilità visive (ipovedenti o non vedenti): attraverso pannelli informativi e postazioni dedicate con le riproduzioni in scala di alcune delle statue esposte, è possibile inoltre conoscere forma e dimensioni degli originali. Il Museo Lorenzo Ferri offre visite guidate, laboratori didattici ed escursioni per gli studenti delle scuole di ogni ordine e grado, con attività organizzate secondo necessità e obiettivi specifici, in accordo con i docenti accompagnatori. Lorenzo Ferri realizzò pannelli espositivi, gessi anatomici e copie da studio di opere classiche, andati purtroppo perduti, con l’intento di creare un museo interattivo contiguo ad un liceo artistico proprio nella città di Cave. Lorenzo Ferri, per i suoi studi sulla Sacra Sindone, frequentò gli ambienti ecclesiastici romani dove strinse amicizia con Monsignor Lorenzo Castellani, parroco di Cave, il quale portò l’artista nella cittadina cavense. La prima opera per la città è una tela della Veronica raffigurante il volto di Cristo coronato di spine, realizzata per il "Comitato Pro-Venerdì Santo" di cui Monsignor Castellani era direttore spirituale, oggi conservata presso la chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta. In seguito realizza altre due opere, espressiva testimonianza del suo rapporto affettivo con Cave: la porta bronzea della Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, presentata nel 1970 a Paolo VI e inaugurata nel 1972, che illustra la vita della Vergine e nella quale sono raffigurati lo stesso Ferri e Monsignor Castellani; il Crocifisso Sindonico, iniziato del 1964 e fuso in bronzo postumo, esposto presso la frazione di San Bartolomeo.

The Lorenzo Ferri Museum, part of "Museo Civico CittĂ di Cave" and included in the Territorial Museum System Pre.Gio., is dedicated to the sculptor, restorer and sindonologist Lorenzo Ferri (1902-1975). A few kilometers from Rome, the Lorenzo Ferri Museum is divided in two sections: the main section that hosts a collection of artworks and a second separated section dedicated to the Monumental Nativity. The section of the museum, which opened in December 2013 at Via Cavour 27 in the former Mattei’s Hospital, hosts a collection of plaster casts made by the artist highly representative of the different phases of his career, from the 20s to 70s. Among the most significant and well-known artworks, it hosts the sketches of Roman sculptures such as the statue of Trilussa and Giolitti, Ecce Homo, Christ Alpha-Omega and Christ the Redeemer; the bronze doors competition reliefs for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, the oil painting "Eve in Eden" and the sketches of monument for Knock Shrine in Ireland. The section of the Monumental Nativity, opened in December 2012 at the underground halls of the former Augustinian Monastery, hosts the giant nativity made by Ferri with more than 4 meters high statues: the nine plaster statues, sculpted between 1947 and 1948 after winning the competition organized by Pallottini Fathers in order to renew the crib of Sant'Andrea della Valle in Rome, depict the Epiphany with Mary and the baby Jesus, St. Joseph at right of the Virgin and in front of them the three Magi, one kneeling, with their pages bearing offerings. The main section of the Lorenzo Ferri Museum is accessible to persons with handicap. In both sections there is a tactile path that allows to people with visual disabilities to enjoy the exhibition space and to know artworks: through information panels and dedicated workstations with scale models of some statues, it’s possible to understand shape and size of the originals one. Lorenzo Ferri, for his studies on the Shroud of Turin, attended the Roman ecclesiastical circles where he befriended Monsignor Lorenzo Castellani, pastor of Cave, who brought the artist in his town. The first work for the city of Cave is a canvas for Veronica (character of the procession of the Cross) depicting the face of Christ crowned with thorns, given to the "Committee Pro-Good Friday" that Monsignor Castellani was the spiritual director, now preserved at the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Later he realizes other two works, expressive testimony of his loving relationship with Cave: the bronze door of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, presented to Pope Paul VI in 1970 and inaugurated in 1972, which shows the life of the Virgin and in which are depicted Ferri himself with Monsignor Castellani; the Holy Shroud Crucifix, began in 1964 and cast in bronze posthumously, exhibited at the hamlet of San Bartolomeo.
