**************
On March 19, 1901, a massive volume of ice and rock broke away from the Rossboden Glacier, destroying the mountain huts and pastures of the valley below Egga, in the Simplon Valley. The colossal mass of debris reached a height of 50 meters, destroying thirty-eight structures, including houses and barns. Two women on their way to the barns lost their lives, along with thirteen head of large cows and forty smaller animals. Five years after the avalanche, masses of ice were still visible in the area. It was one of Switzerland’s largest landslides—a tragic event that captured public attention and moved the artist Federico Ashton to create the painting currently on display at Casa De Rodis as part of the ORNAMENTA exhibition. In this painting, we encounter a woman at work, immersed in the transformed landscape. Have you seen it yet? Today, the same area is covered by a beautiful larch forest.
We are open today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m
