On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate two extraordinary women whose dedication and perseverance has shaped the story of Porciano.
Flaminia Goretti de’ Flamini Specht was the visionary who brought the castle back to life (along with her husband George). When Porciano stood on the edge of ruin, she saw not decay, but possibility. With determination, courage, and deep love for history, she restored its ancient walls and preserved centuries of heritage for future generations.
That legacy continues through her daughter, Martha Specht Corsi, who carried forward the same passion for Porciano and the Casentino valley. Thanks to her care and dedication, the castle remains not just a monument of the past, but a living place of culture, memory, and welcome for our guests. Today, our team still looks to Martha for guidance on all things Porciano — from the special Irises curated by her father George to the many wonderful stories of Porciano from her youth until 2021.
From mother to daughter, the story of Porciano Castle is also a story of women preserving history and inspiring the future.
Happy International Women’s Day to all of the women in our lives.
