'How Water Grows' marks the culmination of an experimental trajectory that began in 2020 and presents the artist’s work once again in the city where he grew up. Zoro Feigl is one of the most renowned Dutch kinetic artists. In recent years, he has presented work at Cobra Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, and his work is held in the collections of the Verbeke Foundation, Museum Voorlinden and Rijksmuseum Twenthe. He won the Audience Award of the Volkskrant Beeldende Kunstprijs and the Witteveen+Bos Kunst+Techniek Prijs. In May and June, alongside the solo exhibition, he will present a permanent installation for Artis, and he has created an installation for the performance Klei with Boukje Schweigman.

Tonight: Get Under the Jurisdiction of Clay ❤️🩵

The wait is over! Tonight, Friday, March 6, ‘The Ministry of Ceramic Affairs II’ officially reclaims its seat at raam art space Amsterdam. Under the governance of , the second edition of this clay-filled takeover is finally here.

Expect the unexpected. This isn’t your typical pottery gallery; this high-ceilinged extravaganza features 23 visionary artists pushing the absolute limits of the medium. We’re talking about a ceramic landscape where monster trucks, mountains of fish, and a staircase overflowing with lucky cats all live under one roof.

The exhibition shows work by Armando, Lucebert, .courtillot & .vonk

Double the art, double the fun. Not only can you witness the Minister’s curated selection, but you can also lose yourself in Koos Buster’s simultaneous solo exhibition, ‘A Love Supreme’, in next door. It’s a total immersion into the playful world of contemporary ceramics.

The doors open at 16:00 sharp. Come celebrate the reopening, meet the makers, and submit yourself to the jurisdiction of the Ministry.

Present Absence by Celine van den Boorn, now on view at Gallery Vriend van Bavink
 
“Vaak zien mensen die vakantie vieren zichzelf liever niet als toerist. Of het nu in de drukke straten van Venetië is of op het overvolle pad naar Santiago; de toerist is altijd de ander. 
Er is geen fenomeen in onze tijd dat zo appelleert aan de Romantiek als vakantiebeloftes. Op reis streven we niet alleen naar authenticiteit, maar ook naar ervaringen in het landschap die overweldigend en ongerept zijn. Het verlangen naar de natuur is dan ook van alle tijden. Dat men zich liever niet beschouwt als toerist, gaat natuurlijk over die authentieke ervaring. De indruk van echtheid blijft intact zolang we onszelf buiten de toeristenstroom plaatsen. Het is deze paradox die het hedendaagse massatoerisme wereldwijd in zijn greep houdt: “Terwijl toeristen bovenal op zoek zijn naar authentieke ervaringen, veroorzaakt hun aanwezigheid een teloorgang van de authenticiteit die ze begeren.” (Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, Grand Hotel Europa, 2018)
Op het schilderij We Were Here (slide 2) van Celine van den Boorn staat een strand afgebeeld. Van schuin boven kijken wij, de toeschouwers, over het zand heen, met rechts het blauwe zeewater en links bovenin nog een kleine groenstrook. Op het strand zijn honderden spullen te zien: felgekleurde plastic ballen, rode parasols, een plastic windscherm. Oorspronkelijk is het een foto uit de krant, zo een die altijd wordt afgedrukt op hete zomerse dagen, hier groot afgedrukt. Van den Boorn heeft echter alle strandgangers weggeschilderd; alleen de spullen liet ze onbeschilderd. Nu valt het echt op, de hoeveelheid dingen die op zomerse dagen wordt meegenomen naar de zee, de mate waarin een maagdelijk strand wordt volgestouwd met zooi.
Op afstand lijkt We Were Here een digitale collage; van dichtbij valt de tactiele schildertoets op. Het is ook een absurdistisch werk. De felgekleurde spullen dansen als het ware over de zandkorrels heen.”
