In celebration of National Women’s Month, nineteen (19) individuals with commendable artistic talent participated in the Women’s Month Ramadan Calligraphy Contest held on 12 March 2026 at the PMB Conference Hall, Cotabato City.
The activity forms part of the broader observance of Women’s Month, which aims to recognize women’s vital contributions to society, promote gender justice, and strengthen efforts toward the protection and advancement of women’s rights. Anchored in Gender and Development (GAD) principles and aligned with Islamic teachings, the contest served as a meaningful platform to highlight the dignity, rights, and empowerment of women through spiritual reflection and artistic expression.
Participants demonstrated their creativity and technical skills in Islamic calligraphy while sharing reflections on Qur’anic verses that emphasize women’s rights and empowerment. One of the verses highlighted was Surah An-Nisa (4:19), which forbids inheriting women against their will, prohibits coercing them to reclaim their bridal gifts (mahr), and commands men to treat women with kindness and honor.
By encouraging participants to explore and artistically express these messages, the activity helped raise awareness of the values of respect, dignity, and justice for women—principles central to both Islamic teachings and the objectives of Women’s Month. The contest also highlighted the role of Bangsamoro youth in promoting positive social values and fostering a deeper appreciation of women’s rights within the cultural and religious context of the community.
The activity further showcased the participants’ deep appreciation and understanding of the wisdom embodied in the Qur’anic verses they expressed through their calligraphy.
