We are delighted to present a solo exhibition featuring Ebba Svensson at the Chart Art Fair in
Copenhagen. At the fair, we are exhibiting a series of new, large-scale paintings in booth #19.

The paintings on view at Chart are even more spontaneous and associative than her earlier works. They are dense images in a subdued colour palette, with the canvases filled from corner to corner. A sort of painterly version of music’s ‘Wall of Sound’. We are faced with a choice: to let our gaze wander over their intricate surfaces or to step into their space. The intricacy that winds its way across the canvas reaches out towards the viewer and delves into the depths of the painting. Roots that twist and cling, and branches that stretch outwards. In many works there is a water’s surface, where the image becomes a double exposure of reflection and transparency, making it even harder to navigate and find one’s footing.

We are delighted to present a solo exhibition featuring Ebba Svensson CHART in Copenhagen next week (27–30.8)! At the fair, we are exhibiting a series of new, large-scale paintings in booth 19.

In recent years, Ebba Svensson has earned considerable recognition for her monumental landscape paintings. Her distinctive approach to painting is firmly rooted in tradition, yet also incorporates innovative experimentation and a contemporary perspective. Her works exist in a liminal space between figuration and abstraction. The starting point is imagery of nature, but during the work process these images become increasingly dissolved, with the focus shifting to materiality rather than representation. Svensson has developed a characteristic technique in which she applies oil paint through numerous short strokes using small, stiff, handmade brushes onto a hare-glue-primed and pigmented cotton canvas. It is a dry, repetitive style of painting that is most reminiscent of sewing, dry pastel drawing and post-Impressionist art from the early 20th century. The surfaces of the paintings can be described as a vibrant, painterly buzz.
