Addison Historical Society

Addison Historical Society The group meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of March, April, September, and October, at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall.

The Addison Historical Society dates back to March 7, 1974, when a group of citizens saw the need to collect and preserve historical artifacts and materials, which would establish or illustrate the history of the area. The purpose of the organization, which began with 31 charter members, is to bring together those people interested in history, especially in the history of Addison, and is dedicated

to promoting the understanding of that history. There is an annual field trip for members, as well as a potluck dinner held in late Fall. Members sponsor seasonal craft workshops for children and help with tours of the buildings during school field trips and village events. Over the years, the group has conducted garage sales, craft and cookie sales, raffles, and other fundraisers, to support the museum and the preservation of the Century House.

Addison Items Loaned for DuPage Exhibit on America 250! 🇺🇸

The DuPage County Historical Museum will be loaned two items from our museum collection for their exhibit, Defining US: The 250th Anniversary of the United States, open July 15, 2026 - April 10, 2027.

In 1976, President Gerald R. Ford commended the Village of Addison for our contributing role in the nation’s Bicentennial celebration.

In that same year, former Addison Historical Society President Vivian Krentz created a patriotic patchwork vest for her daughter, Terril.

A visitor stopped by and shared an original Addison Public Library card with us, and we had to show it off!

Before barcodes and computers, library cards looked a little different. A metal plate on the card was used to check out books using a special machine. Staff would place the card and the book’s card into the machine, and with a loud “ka-chunk!” sound, it stamped the patron’s ID number and the due date onto the book’s card.

This system was used in libraries starting in the 1930s and was part of everyday library life here in Addison until the 1980s, when we switched over to barcodes and an electronic catalog.

The Addison Historical Museum is open for touring Wednesday through Friday from 11am-4pm. The museum is also open the Second Saturday of the month from 12-4pm, and every Thursday night from June through August weather permitting, from 6-8pm. Group tours or archives access can be scheduled by advanced appointment by calling (630) 628-1433. Admission is FREE.

After last week's rainout, Rock 'n Wheels returns this week!

At the Addison Historical Museum, tour the three historic museum buildings, see the Museum's 50th Anniversary display, shop the craft and vintage fair, and interact with our historical presenter from 6-8 pm. Addison Uncorked Returns to Museum Campus!

After two years of being relocated to the Addison Village Hall Rotunda, our 9th annual Addison Uncorked event returned to the museum campus on Tuesday, June 9th on a beautiful yet, warm and humid evening. Guests enjoyed sampling a wide variety of fine vintages, craft beers, and hard seltzers while listening to the soothing tones of Jane Allyson.

The Addison Historical Society, Addison Center for the Arts, and Women's Club of Addison would like to thank our guests for their continuing support of this cooperative fundraiser and our event sponsor: GreenState Credit Union, vendor sponsors: Lynfred Winery, Church Street Brewing Company, and Sal's Beverage World, pizza sponsors: 601 Bar & Grill, Franky's, Aurelio's, and Pyramid Sports Bar & Pizzeria, and food vendors: Costco, Sam's Club, and Jewel.

Out of an abundance of caution, tonight's show will be cancelled. There is no date to reschedule. While the Village of Addison avoids cancelling shows whenever possible, holding them rain or shine, tonight's circumstances go beyond that. With multiple threats of severe weather being conveyed to us by the National Weather Service, including EF2 tornados, strings of severe thunder storms, and flooding, we do not want to risk putting any of you, any of our performers, or any of the wonderful people behind the scenes of the event in danger tonight. Stay safe, and stay inside. Thank you.
