The birthplace of the American illustrated storybook and historic home of Joel Chandler Harris in Atlanta's Historic West End Neighborhood, The Wren’s Nest is a cultural center that promotes literacy and celebrates the stories from African and Indigenous folklore. By preserving the heritage of African and Indigenous folklore through public storytelling, tours, student publishing, concerts, a free book program, and events, The Wren’s Nest serves as an educational resource for the community, the greater Atlanta area, and visitors from around the world.

It's time for the storyteller of the week announcement, and this Sat we will have the wonderful and evert talented Deborah Strahorn in the house spinning yarns and delighting audiences of all ages. Only a few more weeks of fall fun at the house before we slide into winter decor so come down and enjoy a little slightly spooky fun and story time this Sat from 11-3pm.

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of hosting Trees Atlanta campers for lunch in our garden and a mini tour of our museum. They were so respectful of our "not behind glass" experience and had so many wonderful questions. Thanks to the team at Trees Atlanta for sharing your campers with us, we hope we see some of them again for storytelling some Saturday!

Did you know, this Sunday is Atlanta Streets Alive down Ralph David Abernathy and we have some festive fun planned! You will find a yard sale full of vampiric values (even a faux coffin for sale), mini "spooky" house tours for a small donation AND pumpkin porch portraits, again for a small donation. So come on by and grab the Halloween spirit as well as some eerily inexpensive toys, household items and rundown stuff from our basement. See you there! 👻 🎃 ⚰ 🦇

Today we had a visit from a very special guest who may know more about particular aspects of Brer Rabbit's history that WE do! Maia who is a student at Furman University came by to interview our museum administrator Rebekah and video tape a storytelling performance from Deborah Strahorn, one of the Kuumba Do-Tell Wren's Nest Ramblers for a class she is taking. SO much fun to talk to a young person who is such a fan of all the stories we tell. She hopes to work for Imagineering someday, maybe she will help us unlock access to Song of the South for our dream of a screening and panel discussion. Thanks Maia for being a super fan!

Last week we had a lovely group of students from Spelman College come visit the Nest as part of a course on Folklore and African American Literature they were taking. They got a performance from Gwendolyn Napier followed by a tour with the main writer of our new script, Jim Auchmutey. Great questions from the group and interesting to see our story thought their lens. Thanks for coming!
