Atwater Historical Society

Atwater Historical Society AHS was formed in 1973 by citizens to ensure that the Bloss Home would remain the jewel of the city. to 4 p.m. for free guided tours.

The Bloss Home Museum and beautiful lush grounds are open on the first Sunday of each month, with the exception of holidays and super bowl Sunday, between the hours of 1 p.m. Our docents are very knowledgeable with the history of the Bloss home as well as the history of Atwater and are eager to share their knowledge with you and share this beautiful Atwater treasure with all those who are interested.

Driving by the Merced County Courthouse Museum every day on my to work it has been exciting to watch the improvements on this beautiful building. Now with the scaffolding slowly coming down, the improvements are remarkable. Please come out on Saturday October 4th for this grand celebration.

This article of Atwater's first 4th of July celebration was printed in the Atwater Signal on June 16, 1911.
The proud tradition continues over 100 years later. This years events kick of at 7:00 a.m. with a Run For Independence, followed by a parade through downtown at 9:00 a.m., food vendors and festivities at Ralston Park from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. finishing out the day with a concert & fireworks show a the Castle Commerce Center from 6 p.m.-10 p.m.

Thursday afternoon the Atwater High School Lady Falcons Varsity Basketball team was lead through the streets of Atwater by the Atwater Police Department, Atwater Fire and a Merced County Sheriff's helicopter flying overhead to start the drive to Sacramento to play in the section championship game.
They returned to AHS as CHAMPIONS!!!!! Defeating Christian Brothers High School at the Golden One Center in Sacramento. The final score of 65-49, bringing home AHS's first women's basketball sectional championship since 1988.

The city of Atwater has fun things for all ages to enjoy.
Old Town Atwater's Ice Skating rink is now open!!!
Atwater's Annual Christmas Parade is set for Friday December 6th at 7:00 p.m. After the parade come to the historic Bloss house at 1020 Cedar Ave for a Christmas in Atwater celebration, the Bloss home will also be open from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on December 6th and 7th. And who can forget about the Atwater/Buhach High School production of "A Christmas Adventure" get your tickets now!!! for this community loved event happening December 12th-15th.

On Tuesday October 22, the Atwater Historical Society and the Atwater Women's Club hosted the "How to Grow a Community Museum" put on by the Merced County Historical Societies. Over 20 people attended the training and are eager to put their new ideas and information to work! Thank you to all who attended and a special thank you to the Merced County Historical Societies for providing an invaluable day of information and insight.
