Plein air is when the painter creates on site. CGM is a member of a group of watercolor artists who get together regularly to paint in a designated spot. One of their favorite spots is Zilker Botanical Gardens, though the group goes all over, including Bull Creek. cgmfineart.com

Chris has painted a Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglots) perched quietly among a forest of green leaves. The soft watercolor layers create a peacefully serene atmosphere, as if the viewer is standing amidst the lush foliage.

A mockingbird's tail is long, often the same length as its body. They are known for their constant singing day or night and for their territorial nature. Commonly found in North America, they mimic calls of other birds and random sounds. The popular mockingbird is the state bird of five states.

To me, the Malabar Spinach Vine represents quiet strength and delicate natural beauty. It's hardy and grows almost anywhere and has sustained people for centuries. The red vines prod and twist around textured shadows, with tiny blossoms clinging to the tips. The mix of soft greens and warm red tones reminds us that even ordinary plants can hold powerful stories. Creating this piece helped me reflect on resilience, balance, and beauty. PETUNIA

12 x 12" Acrylic on Canvas — by Chris Green-Martinez

Bursting with freshness and color, Petunia captures the vitality of a single bloom in full glory. The rich violet-magenta petals glow against the crisp blue sky, balanced by lush green leaves that radiate with life and movement.

The earthen pot grounds the composition, emphasizing the harmony between nature and nurture. With bold brushwork and vibrant hues, this piece celebrates simple beauty—the joy found in everyday blossoms that brighten our world.

PRESENTATION & FRAMING RECOMMENDATIONS

Because Petunia is painted on a 12x12" canvas, it offers versatile display options:

FLOATING FRAME (Natural Wood or White): A light maple or white float frame enhances the fresh, garden-like quality of the painting, creating clean separation from the wall while keeping focus on the flower’s vibrancy.

GALLERY WRAP DISPLAY: If you prefer a modern minimalist look, this painting can also be hung unframed. The 1.5" gallery edges can be painted in a complementary neutral tone (soft gray, cream, or muted green) for a polished, contemporary presentation.

TRADITIONAL FRAME (Ornate or Bronze): For a more classic interior, a deep bronze or gold frame adds warmth and contrast, transforming the work into an elegant centerpiece.

This intimate square format makes Petunia perfect for small spaces, gallery walls, or floral collections where color and joy take center stage.

Ever feel like you live in a bubble? Chris Green's "The Bubble" captures a fleeting moment of wonder and possibility. The vivid colors and surreal style draw your eyes upward to the floating orb—just out of reach. The eager hands reflect our own longing for the short-lived moments of life.

This striking piece makes us think: What dreams do we reach for, and how do we hold onto them before they drift away? 🌌💫

🖼️ "The Bubble" is available now through CGM Fine Art. Add this powerful, thought-provoking work to your collection and bring its message of wonder into your space.

In honor of Native American Day, I am posting paintings of two scenes. One is a corn dance at Taos Pueblo during the Feast of Santiago painted in acrylic, and the other is a watercolor of a Kokopelli, the deity of fertility and agriculture. The corn dance I did from memory because no photography was allowed by visitors to the Pueblo in those days. Now, there is a camera fee.

This shot shows these gregarious aquatic birds in their element wading on creek banks. Egrets and herons roost in forests near the Colorado River lakes and on its tributaries. Egrets are one of CGM’s main inspirations as seen in her 36x36 geometric piece, Egret Landing.
