In honor of Memorial Day we share this material from our archives: Invitation to a Decoration Day Dinner Dance, dated May 28, 1927.

Artifact donated by Barbara Livy.

Tidbit: Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It wasn’t until 1971 that the holiday was changed to be called “Memorial Day”.

Decoration Day was started in 1868 as a way to remember the fallen Civil War soldiers, by strewing their graves with flowers.
