Habitot Children's Museum Reopening Efforts Are Underway. We left the Emeryville space at the end of 2024. There we welcomed over 22,000 children & families.

We are working with other property owners in hopes of reopening in a larger space soon. Habitot’s mission is to help parents and caregivers raise curious, creative and confident children with hands-on exhibits and programs to focus exclusively on early childhood, ages 0-5. Habitot aims to reach all children with play via free admission days and in dedicated programs for children experiencing speci

al needs, teen parents, formerly incarcerated mothers, children experiencing homelessness and children in the foster care system. Since opening eighteen years ago in 1998, Habitot has welcomed over 1,100,000 visitors, filling a niche for new parents and caregivers who seek safe and enriching experiences for young children, with parenting support, a toy lending library, affordable music and art classes, immersive learning exhibits, a drop-in Art Studio, role playing centers. Habitot Children's Museum has been recognized as the "best museum for families" by Bay Area Parent Magazine readers. In addition, Habitot's founder, Gina Moreland, has been honored with a Bay Area "Jefferson Award", and was the City of Berkeley's "Early Childhood Champion of the Year." Habitot received the GuideStar Exchange Silver participation level, a leading symbol of transparency and accountability provided by GuideStar USA, Inc., the premier source of nonprofit information. Annually since 2010, Habitot has been designated a "Top-Rated Nonprofit" by GreatNonprofits, a leading provider of reviews and ratings of nonprofit organizations. Habitot participates in the Association of Children’s Museum’s program, “Museum’s For All,” which accepts EBT cards and ensures that all children may enjoy museums regardless of their income.

“I joined Habitot’s board to help bring a children’s museum to the East Bay — a joyful, hands-on place where kids can play authentically, learn, and explore. As a parent, I’m especially excited to support a space where my own children can thrive and also to help make this experience accessible to more families in our community.”

We're so pleased to have welcomed Rica Landreau to Habitot's Board of Directors this spring. Rica is the Senior Director of Business Operations at Capcom USA, a premier Japanese video game developer and publisher. She discovered Habitot at a Mobile Museum event a few years ago and says she’s eager to contribute at a more strategic level, using her skills to help guide the organization, strengthen its impact, and support its long-term success.

We’re delighted to welcome Mei Ha, to Habitot’s Board of Directors this spring.

Mei is the Group Vice President at Digital Media and has over 15 years of experience in media and advertising. She has recently been running paid advertising for the NetSuite product line at Oracle. She joined Habitot’s Board because “I’d love to give back to my community—especially Oakland, where I grew up. When I had my kids, I realized there weren't any safe, educational, and toddler friendly museums or play areas around for my children in the East Bay. When I heard about Habitot, I knew I needed to be part of it and help it grow. I'm so excited to be part of the journey!"

Thank you, moms, step and foster moms, grandmothers, aunts, and other maternal figures who care for us kids by feeding us, holding us, playing with us, listening to us, making us feel safe when we’re sad or scared, reading to us, making us laugh, carrying us when we’re tired, working so we have a roof over our heads, showing us how to be kind to ourselves and to others, keeping us healthy, letting us experiment, explore and create.
We’re so grateful for you.

Happy Mother’s Day to those of you who celebrate.
