Lawrence Hall of Science

Lawrence Hall of Science Science Starts Here. Soar through outer space. Climb a giant whale. Meet a chinchilla.

From the giant DNA sculpture on our plaza, to designing rockets like an engineer and meeting a legless lizard, you'll have a whale of a time! Our science center at UC Berkeley is designed to inspire tomorrow’s scientists, where their imaginations can run wild. The Lawrence is where hands-on discovery, inspiration, and fun combine—where “ha ha” moments turn into “aha!” moments. If you learned scien

ce in school, there’s a good chance you may have learned it from the Lawrence Hall of Science. While we’re known for our science center, we’re also innovators in science education, creating curricula that build wonder and fascination while reaching millions of students each year.

"We no longer existed, according to the books or the smart people. They didn’t know what they were talking about. When I was younger, I never saw our culture represented in places like this. This is the first time for me, and I’m 95! My name is Dolores Lameira. I'm an elder, retired Ohlone Tribal leader. Now that I’m retired, I don't play a role in my community unless they come to me and want to know something. It’s surprising to me that a lot of people are interested in our history, but it’s wonderful. Bring your family and your friends. Please come. Let them enjoy the beauty that's in here. If you truly love the Bay Area, you should learn about us. We’re not all dead, we’re in this new generation like everybody else!" — Auntie Dottie (Dolores Lameira), elder, retired Ohlone Tribal leader, matriarch of the East Bay Ohlone community

The Lawrence Lobby is Getting a Makeover—and it Starts With an Oak Tree 🌳

“The lobby redesign is about making it a multi-use space that really functions for everybody — and telling a clearer story about what science is and what it should be.” - Michelle Rodriguez, Director of Content Strategy

Walk into the Lawrence Hall of Science on May 16, and you might feel like you’ve stepped into something new. Our lobby is being reimagined from the ground up as a welcoming, story-driven space that reflects what The Lawrence has always believed: that science belongs to everyone, and that it’s most powerful when it’s rooted in community.

"Do. Or do not. There is no try"

Use the force of your brain waves to win a battle against your opponent. Mindball pits two players against each other by measuring brain activity and computing a score based on those signals. A ball moves across the table depending on who has the higher score.

Calm your mind and focus on the game to come out on top! And be with you.
