We are beyond honored to share that Future of Food has been awarded the 2026 CIMUSET Award! 🌾✨

This recognition celebrates the community-authored approach behind the exhibition. Rather than asking what science we should communicate, Future of Food started with a fundamentally different question: What matters most to our communities?

This award belongs to the nearly 230 contributors and 150 partner organizations who co-created this space alongside us. To the Indigenous leaders, urban farmers, food justice advocates, youth organizations, scientists, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and public health experts: thank you. Your lived experiences, cultural wisdom, and vision for equitable, regenerative food systems made this exhibition possible.

The CIMUSET (ICOM International Committee for Museums and Collections of Science and Technology) Award jury commended Future of Food for demonstrating how science centers can serve as inclusive civic platforms where historically underrepresented voices actively shape the futures we hope to inspire.

We're celebrating Dia de los Mu***os with two bilingual workshops! 🎉

Join us to build a collaborative community ofrenda, an altar of offerings and remembrance, alongside Tierra Rituals. Our altar will be dedicated to the ancestors, families, indigenous knowledge keepers, and organizers who keep our communities rooted and looking forward. Make your contribution during one of our bilingual Día de los Mu***os workshops, then join to see our work at the Fruitvale Día de los Mu***os festival in Oakland, CA.

We are star studded! We had Oakland’s own, Grammy Award-winning Alphabet Rockers performed at our Earth Day Celebration this year. A huge thank you to East Bay Municipal Utility District, who made this possible!

The performance brought Alphabet Rockers together with Oakland rapper Gina Madrid to debut “H2Flow en Español.” The original English version of “H2Flow” was developed in 2025 for World Water Day in collaboration with EBMUD and students from Piedmont Avenue Elementary School in Oakland.

“H2Flow” highlights the journey of each drop from the Mokelumne River to the tap and reinforces the message that water is for everyone, encouraging listeners to skip bottled water and “drink the clean water flow—just like that.”

This is the first time for me, and I’m 95! My name is Dolores Lameira. I'm an elder, retired Ohlone Tribal leader. Now that I’m retired, I don't play a role in my community unless they come to me and want to know something. It’s surprising to me that a lot of people are interested in our history, but it’s wonderful. Bring your family and your friends. Please come. Let them enjoy the beauty that's in here. If you truly love the Bay Area, you should learn about us. The Lawrence Lobby is Getting a Makeover—and it Starts With an Oak Tree 🌳

Walk into the Lawrence Hall of Science on May 16, and you might feel like you’ve stepped into something new. Our lobby is being reimagined from the ground up as a welcoming, story-driven space that reflects what The Lawrence has always believed: that science belongs to everyone, and that it’s most powerful when it’s rooted in community.
