I’ve fallen into a bit of a rabbit hole researching Appalachian culture, and I was especially drawn to the way bay leaves have been used with intention. Traditionally, wishes, prayers, protection, and manifestations were written on bay leaves—sometimes with food coloring or ink—and then burned, added to baths, or incorporated into meals and rituals as a way to invite positive energy and release negativity. These practices are rooted in a broader tradition of honoring native plants for their spiritual significance, with knowledge often passed down through generations in Appalachian communities.
I thought it would be a meaningful way to have everyone write a wish for the New Year on a bay leaf from the plant I grew in my own garden—a small, intentional moment to reflect, hope, and carry that energy forward together.

A client recently brought me a beautiful memorial piece featuring Ginkgo leaves that held deep meaning for her family.

Ginko leaves!!! Stunning Ginko Leaves😍

I had to admit, I had never seen a Ginko leaf in person before in my entire life, and learning how much significance it carried made the piece feel even more special.
When she brought the arrangement to me, I was completely speechless—so different, so unique, and yet incredibly beautiful.
No flowers, no crazy color…just simple.

I was a little nervous about how the leaves would turn out during the pressing process, but they preserved remarkably well.
Almost felt like I captured them in time.
