Some people make a community better simply by being part of it.

Darrel is one of those people.

If you’ve spent time around Front Porch Gallery, you’ve probably met him. If not, you’ve almost certainly benefited from his kindness in ways you may never know.

Whether he’s walking through the Village with a dustpan and broom helping keep our neighborhood beautiful, introducing someone new to the gallery, connecting us with a teaching artist, or simply stopping to have a conversation, Darrell leads with generosity.

What I appreciate most is that he truly sees people.

He notices them.
Welcomes them.
Makes them feel valued.

Over the years, so many wonderful connections and friendships have started because of him.

It’s funny how life works. Sometimes you begin as strangers, and before you know it, you’re family.

We are grateful for you, Darrell and for the light, kindness, and community spirit you bring wherever you go. ❤️

Sometimes the first red dot tells a bigger story.

This piece by artist Krista Timberlake was one of the first works to sell in our current exhibition.

What makes the story even more meaningful is that it was purchased by fellow artist Micki Brown.

There is something beautiful about artists supporting artists.

Micki understands the courage it takes to create, to share your work, and to put a piece of yourself out into the world. Choosing to support another artist in this way is a reminder of what community can look like at its best.

This is what I love about our gallery.

People show up for one another.

They encourage one another.

They collect, support, create, and give.

The artwork is important, but so are the relationships that form around it.

Every red dot tells a story.

This one is about generosity, connection, and a community that continues to lift each other up.

I’ve been thinking about Don ever since our exhibition opening on Saturday.

Don is in his 80s.

He’s still creating.

Still exhibiting his work.

Still curious.

Still engaged.

Still showing up.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Don and his wife during the opening, and what stayed with me was their enthusiasm for life.

Their kindness.

Their curiosity.

Their genuine interest in the people around them.

They reminded me of something I’ve learned again and again at the gallery:

There is no expiration date on creativity.

No expiration date on purpose.

No expiration date on learning, growing, contributing, or connecting.

You can keep becoming.

You can keep creating.

You can keep surprising yourself.

Sometimes the most inspiring people in the room are the ones who have spent decades doing exactly that.

My little bestie ❤️

For more than a year, Sydney has been showing up in a big way for the gallery.

Saturday, at our More Than Words exhibition opening, she was right where she always is—supporting artists, visiting with friends, and bringing her bright energy to the room.

There is something special about Sydney. She has a generous spirit, a kind heart, and she somehow already understands something many of us spend a lifetime learning: the more you give, the more you receive.

She shows up.
She helps.
She encourages.
She belongs.

And she’s a fabulous artist, too. I’ve loved watching her creativity grow and seeing the confidence she brings to everything she makes.

Thank you, Sydney, for all the joy, laughter, art, and light you bring to the gallery. Watching you grow up here and become such an important part of our community has been one of my favorite gifts.

You make the world a more beautiful place. ❤️

Build it, and they will come.

That’s what today felt like at the opening of More Than Words.

The gallery was filled with Carlsbad by the Sea residents, artists, neighbors, first-time visitors, and even a dapper Congressman from Pasadena and his lovely family.

People lingered. They talked. They connected.

And, as always, some of my favorite people from Free Art Saturday showed up to support the gallery and this community we’ve built together.

Days like today remind me that art is never just about what hangs on the wall.

It’s about creating spaces where people feel welcome.

Where conversations begin.

Where friendships form.

Where people remember they belong.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude for this community.
