✈️The answer to our trivia question last week flew over everyone’s heads and no one landed the correct answer. The giveaway has been delayed until the next question takes off with an estimated time of departure Monday morning.

What set Spur Cross apart from the area’s other dude ranches? All puns intended the correct answer was that Spur Cross Guest Ranch had their own airstrip and plane when operated under Warren and Billie Beaubien. In 1953 a plane crash on the airstrip tragically ended Warren’s life.

🌟The winner of our military road trivia question was Adam Mayo! Not only is he an avid Civil War buff, he also has deep Cave Creek family roots. We finally caught up with Adam yesterday to present him with his prize. Congratulations, Adam!

The military road was built by Colonel George Stoneman after the Civil War and allowed the military a more direct line from Fort McDowell to Fort Whipple. Soldiers found our creek (that flowed year round back then) a welcome spot for both men and horses to rest along the route. For more information see the link below.

The Mesquite has landed!
Last week, a beautiful Chilean Mesquite was delivered and planted in our Veterans Memory Garden.
It was given pride of place at the entrance to our museum.

📍Local Landmark of the Month:
El Encanto Restaurant!

Cradled in the heart of Cave Creek, this property was initially the offices for the Black Mountain Gas Company in 1952. The famous pond was originally a natural aquifer, before clay bottom was installed. Bill Nelson purchased the property in 1989 and with a love of Mexican architecture, created an enchanting Old-World Mission style oasis that many say feels like stepping into Mexico. The Nelson family has owned and operated El Encanto here since that time. This wonderful landmark creates special memories for generations of Arizonans and tourists and keeps the Town’s historical charm alive.

Who remembers when the Gas Company was there? Who has celebrated a special occasion with family or friends? Any Desert Arroyo Middle School students out there who remember your 8th grade “graduation” parties held on the patio?

⚒️🌟Congratulations to these two members of our Dream Team for completing their Millman training! Jay and Tom are now certified to work on our mining equipment, especially the Golden Reef Stamp Mill, which is unique to Arizona. They also are the newest volunteers, both just starting with the museum in the past ten months. Impressive start, gentlemen!
