Linda Foard Roberts・Lament・2025

‘Lament’ was part of an ongoing project for Roberts, who was awarded a Guggenheim Fellow for the photographs in 2020. The artist began the work after her son revealed that they had been sitting in the same balcony church pews that had held those enslaved, 160 years before. The significance of not seeing what lay so clearly before her and the words “silence is loud” weighed heavily on her.  With ‘Lament’ Roberts tries to acknowledge and confront the grievous history of the South, where she was born and continues to live.  

As a photographer and recorder of tangible moments, Roberts’ work is deeply personal, rooted in memory, family, and local histories combined with philosophical inquiries about life, death, and basic human rights. These images are layered, documenting places that are remnants of this history before they slip through the course of time. 

In August 2025, Radius Books published ‘Lament,’ a monograph on her series of the same name, also available in SOCO Shop.

Holly graduated with her MFA from Goldsmiths in London, UK. She is originally from Charlotte, is a former member of Goodyear Arts, and a former resident of the McColl Center. Keogh’s works offer rich entry points into abstracted, kaleidoscopic realities containing domestic scenes, lush environments, and overlaid portraits.

Happy Juneteenth from SOCO Gallery!

Roscoe Hall (American, b. 1978) examines the Black experience in America through his richly layered paintings. Working mostly with oil, oil stick and acrylic paint on canvas, the artist includes a variety of symbolic and unconventional recycled materials from the home and kitchen in his work. Hall grinds coffee and cotton, mixing them into his paints, adds charcoal, rayon and chianti, and applies them all to the surface of his canvas. “Try Not Too” was part of his 2023 exhibition “Speak into Existence” at SOCO Annex.

Damian Stamer’s work centers around memory, intuitive mark making, and decay. His most recent series is a collaboration with AI, where Stamer employs DALL-E 2 to transform textual descriptions of his childhood memories into foundational visual references that he then paints. Earlier this year Stamer was included in a major solo exhibition, Damian Stamer: Angels & Ghosts at the Middlebury College Museum of Art.

In “Falling Boy,” Scott Avett revisits repeated imagery of a falling figure with its head covered and torso exposed. The figure alludes to the falling we do as individuals, from falling in love to falling to the effects of time. For Avett, these variations of falling all lead to deeper humility and truth. The imagery is also included in “An Artworld Deathwish,” a painting in the exhibition, where Avett juxtaposes the falling figure with the cover of a book.

Raymond Grubb is a graduate of Davidson College who resides in Charlotte, NC. Raymond’s process references knolling, or the grouping of similar objects, on flat services, but with collected flora and fauna. His new work has been experimenting with color photography after decades of working in the century-old platinum process, adding a new level of warmth and tenderness to his photographs.

Stephanie H. Shih is a ceramics artist who creates everyday items as trompe l’oeil sculptures that reveal the tensions within American domestic life and identity. Her work, “Botan Calrose Rice (Pallet)” was recently shown in the exhibition ‘Dis/orient: Contemporary Art of the Asian Diaspora’ at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University in Durham, NC.

Twins Nikolai and Simon Haas create irreverent sculptures that explore themes related to nature, fantasy, and sexuality. The Haas Brother’s first mid-career retrospective, Uncanny Valley, opened in October 2025 at the Cranbrook Art Museum and will travel to the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY, in 2026. The show will also travel to the Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC in 2027, where SOCO Gallery will also host a solo exhibition of their work. An accompanying publication of their mid-career retrospective, titled “The Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley” was published by Phaidon in November 2025.

‘Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit’ by Anne Lemanski included a further exploration of Lemanski’s meticulously crafted copper-wire armature sculptures she has been exploring since 1997, innovating the works to include skins of built, repetitive forms. The patterns of the sculptures are built from remnants of the artist’s childhood and were accompanied by dynamic, intricate prints of similar imagery.
